The quality of the kit is better than I expected. I did use the tire. tube, and tube protector from my old bike. My bike is a 1993 Mongoose Rockadile SX the rear dropouts are about 5 1/6"-1/8" wide and I needed to slightly spread them and the axles dropped right in. The instruction manual looks nice and has pictures of everything and labels on the wiring, while there is not much instructions included, it is pretty easy to figure out. The connecters on the controller only fit the connecters on the correct wires so you really can't go wrong. Pay attention to the motor to controller connection as the green and blue wires are similar. I am using a triangle battery pack 48V 20Ah from Calibike so I had to change the controller to battery wires, more of a PITA than difficult. I only have 2 miles on it so far, it's raining. Lots of speed not sure how fast it can go as I was on a gravel road and chickened out at 22mph. If you are mechanically adept and know some about basic low voltage systems you should be able to install this kit, if it fits your bike. I am 70 years old and have about 7 hrs. into the total project, still tightening and retightening, that is to be expected.Read full review

It took me a while to review this because I was building a conversion hybrid. I have a very old and very expensive Cannondale which had the wheels stolen. Since I needed wheels anyway... Lots of power! I'll take it up a major hill tomorrow and see how it does but so far it is great. As others have mentioned the instructions are worthless. Doesn't matter! Everything is obvious/color coded. It is very plug and play. I will answer the question bugging me before I bought: Yes you can just leave the crank sensor off and get full power all the time. Just don't plug it in. I bought a 15AHr battery in an aluminum case and it works great. You can slide it off with the turn of a key.

I just completed phase 1 of my installation, pic here: imgur .c0m/a/9BYzf The wheel installed good and all the components seem pretty well made. The electronic control box has different plugs for each accessory so you can't plug things in the wrong spot. If you buy this, be prepared to get your hands dirty and be a DIY'er. I mounted a toolbox on the back of my bikerack to hold my batteries and wedged the control box in the bag under the frame. I need to clean up the wires, but its OK for the first day. The only problems I had were not really related to the item itself... in order to install the pedal assist system you need to take off the crank arm of the bike to put the magnet sensor on. If you do not have the right tool to do this, its practically impossible. I ended up using a dremel and cutting part of the disc out to get it on, and just held in place with super glue. It works :) The other problem I have is the throttle assembly is not really compatible with my gear shifters. The throttle assembly [part that mounts on the right front handlebar] is bulky in the back, and I had to shift my gear shifters over like 3" just so I can use them. I need to take my hand off the handlebar to shift gears. Its a pain, but quite honestly I find myself not really shifting as much anyway since i have the pedal assist. And about the pedal assist---- HOLY HE CK DOG I wish you could adjust this cause man its powerful. I find myself riding in the 2nd to last hardest gear all the time because the pedal assist practically whisks you forward if you are in a lower gear. Also, this thing in 1000w mode is a blast. Clocked myself at 27mph on a straight road, no pedalling. On a bike - that's quick. With the motor and batteries on your bike it can get HEAVY. I live on the 2nd floor and can already tell you I'm gonna burn a lot of calories walking this up and down the stairs. Since you need to provide your own battery and charger, be prepared to potentially have to change the power leads coming out of the unit since they just use generic quick disconnects. I swapped mine over to high current XT-60 connectors.Read full review

I love it. Would have been a 5 star but the manual is useless and if you ask the seller a question you only get canned responses telling you to follow the manual. I am running this on 4 12v 12ah sla batteries and it works well but if you can afford it go li-ion. My bikes balance is off due to the weight. Does about 25mph. Ignore the fool giving a bad review, he apparently didn't read that it needs batteries and a separate charger. Sad.

This kit has everything needed to install, even the tube and tire! It is very easy to install(comes with a manual also). Just take your time, and make sure the battery is last to connect. Once connected, the motor spins with super power! I only wish that the kit contain a lcd control screen, that way the pas could be set from low to high! Overall it is a good unit for anyone wanting to move up to an electric bicycle. Install the correct battery for this powerful hub motor (strong enough 12ah or higher))
