Due to this being an older unit and Intel no longer supporting WiDi or Wireless Display, initial setup and connection can be a little difficult. Luckily, Netgear DOES (as of 4/12/2017) still have a support page with documentation and working WiDi and My WiFi utilities to help out. You will still need to make sure you have the properly supported CPU, video chipset and drivers, and WiFi card and drivers. It took me a couple of days of searching to get all of these items installed that were needed. My laptop is a slightly older Toshiba Portege R830-8332. Windows 7 Pro x64, Intel i7 CPU, Intel HD3000 Graphics, and Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WiFi card. This particular laptop is compatible with the Intel WiDi product NOT Intel Pro WiDi or the later Intel Wireless Display product. Since Intel is no longer supporting either, finding the proper supported system requirements was a bit difficult, with conflicting information but if you search, Intel does have links to the hardware requirements for supporting the use of WiDi. Once you have that ironed out on the laptop itself, connecting to the device is actually pretty simple and the unit does (as of 4/12/2017) update its firmware when connection is made. So far, my desired use of playback of YouTube videos has had reasonable performance with no apparent skipping or lag when just viewing.Read full review

Although the unit appears to be functional, it has been configured and I could not get it to "Reset" or accept a new configuration. I tried Holding the "Reset" button for 10, 20, 30 seconds, but it would just reboot. I tried removing power holding "Reset" and powering up, all to no avail, just a normal reboot. Intel has discontinued all support for WiDi and has removed all software and updates and support articles for the protocol. Netgear as well has removed support for this model as a "Generation One" interface. No Manuals, no software, no anything at all. Google provide numerous dead end or circular leads which soon became more aggravating than the whole thing could be worth. I bought cheep, did not work out, landfill fodder.

I bought this a few months ago. I needed something to mirror my phone to my screen in my truck but that didn't take or need Wi-Fi. I didn't know how hard it would be to find a product that would suit my needs but it actually is hard. This is a device that doesn't need any Wi-Fi to work it actually makes its own net work and has worked very good also works on my note 5 which is a very recent phone and on my wife's iPhone 6s.
