Unfortunately, with all the twists and turns in this movie, it just left me with more questions than I had answers for. The plot is vague at best. The movie begins with a group of mercenaries who are looking for an ancient advanced species. For some strange reason, they are accompanied by a Middle Eastern belly dancer; don't ask me why, maybe she's the Guide. Well, soon they find the creature's lair, and before long the creature breaks out of a wall designed to imprison it. All you see is the creature's claw; you don't see the whole creature till the last 8 minutes of the film. The creature in this film looks so fake, it looks like some guy dressed in a rubber suit with glowing green eyes. How scary is that! Well, as the film continues, a scientist (Lance Henriksen) who works out of the "Edgewater Psychiatric Institute" creates a drug called, "Reficul", made from the DNA of the creature that was captured earlier in the film. Soon a drunk cop, Lt. Russo (Eric Feldman), and a female reporter (Kathryn Flore) are drawn into the dark circumstances to which both of them have history with "The Edgewater Institute", and together they have to find a way to stop this mad scientist. (Lance Henriksen) can usually be counted on to turn out a sterling performance, but with this film, it just didn't show him at his best. Maybe he took the film for the paycheck? The way times are nowadays, I guess I can't blame him. What was more annoying was his background narrative of the film that helps give a sense and feel of what is happening next. When a scriptwriter has to provide a narrative of the film to understand where it is going, that is the first sign that the scriptwriting stinks! The narration will lead to the final scene with a cryptic twist. "Reficul" spelled in reverse is "Lucifer". Danny Trejo of (Machete-2010) fame makes a guest appearance only for 6 minutes of air time. In the film, the director should have gave him 30 minutes instead of 6 minutes, because maybe with his acting talent, he could have saved this movie from the rubbish pile of total film mediocrity.Read full review
