Nancy Drew books are like a time capsule--a piece of history frozen in time. Although Nancy books have been updated in the last few years, there's nothing like the old yellow mysteries (1-56). In these books, life was a lot simpler. George and Bess helped Nancy with her mysteries, and people were kidnapped--never killed. Ned Nickerson (and Dave and Burt) were perfect gentlemen. The series is entertaining, although a bit redundant as you go through the series. They're all written as if you picked up one and started reading, so a lot of the background is repeated. The clothing descriptions are kind of boring also, but once you get through all the fluff, the mysteries are fun to think about and historically accurate. The research methods really were thorough in the books--no matter who was writing under the name "Carolyn Keene", and there were many. Fun for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade girls.Read full review
