My son is into "real keyboards" now somewhat of a keyboard snob. Of course he's a gamer and also a heavy user so has different keyboards. This is about the easiest way to get a NIB IBM older keyboard. Great clicks and durability. My son did hack in an arduino nano for two reasons. The first and primary being the ability to remap some of the keys. Some for convenience and some for gaming and I think to make it easier to work with the WinDoz mapping. The second and minor advantage as it also becomes a USB keyboard. Heck you could hack in the nano just for that with a 1-1 mapping table. So I do think from my rememberances the layout may be different by a tad (or from what you're used to now) so be aware or research. or just also hack in a nano. Or just buy it and enjoy with a serial adapter.Read full review

This keyboard has ever so slightly increasing resistance as you push down on a key, but they are marketed as linear. The sound of them bottoming out is equal to them when u release the key-they bounce up fast and just as loud. Very 'clacky' deep sounds, like a capacitive switch, but paired with high pitched metallic pinging. The board could be used to stop an intruder in an emergency. (It's well built.) Unfortunately to use it the simplest thing to do is buy an already made converter from hasu. See geekhack /index.php?topic=72052.0) This is more expensive than the keyboard, but considering you are getting a new, never opened unit keyboard, it's worth it. Also hasu includes mapping software. Pick ibm4704_usb_alps It's an amazing deal, really. the keycaps alone are SA PBT and the profiling of them is very unique. Keycaps are worth 35$ in my opinion.Read full review

Very Rare! Brand new!!!!!!! Still had that brand new electronics smell which I love! Will need to mod it to work on a modern day PC. These come with Rare ALPS Green linear switches and SA profile key caps that are all R4 profile. All angled the same way which No other keyboard out there has that I know of!

This is a fantastic keyboard and its switches beat pretty much anything around today for a linear key feel. Getting it to work can be a pain but I managed by buying a 4704 converter from a guy called hasu on geekhack. If you are importing to the uk be prepared to wait for customs clearance - I waited a week for the import tax letter. All in all a great opportunity to own a fantastic keyboard and a bit of retro coolness.

Opening this new in box was like opening a time capsule. Even the pictorial quick start guide predates IKEA had its own impression in the styrofoam, everything neatly packaged in plastic bags. Had to buy a converter for it. Very satisfying to type on.
