I bought this book because the editor, J. Marvin Hunter, also published Frontier Times, in which my great grandmother wrote a few articles describing her live in the early settlement of Comfort, TX and New Braunfels TX. It is full or rich stories that bring to life the stories of trials and tribulations of the Texas cowboys. It is very long, and after a while, the stories blend together. But each is unique and sheds a little different light on subjects. This is not a book to read in 1 sitting. Its length (over 1000 pages) prohibits that. But I guarantee that some of these stories will stay with you forever.
I purchased the book because some of my early family members were mentioned in the book. The history and stories in this book contain vast information of the early Texas cowboys. Good source for the writers who want to use actual stories that reflect the golden days of real cowboys.

First hand account from the cowboys who made the cattle drives famous. Quite a few old photographs. The introduction alone makes it well worth the cost, as well as the remarks near the end of the book by George Saunders, who organized the trail drivers and encouraged them to put their memories in writing.
