Pros: -Insane audio fidelity and clearity -Ez to mod adabterplates for other earpads onto as the original earpads are click on, rather than glue on. check my instagram Casmon88 for pics of my project. -Best I've expirienced. my other current headphones count; AKG K3003, Audeze EL-80 Closed, Phillips SHP9500 (Modded with earcups) Cons: -The 252S Amp has to warm up for 15-25min after power is applied and the knop is turned to ON. otherwise the Earspeakers will scratch and do wierd stuff. normal with this Amp thou. the bigger brother in the 3170 pack does not have this issue -Somewhat expensive. especially after Z Reviews had the 2170 in for review.

Sound quality is great, two issues: 1) while bass in pretty great and punchy, sub-bass isnt really there. some tracks this is noticeable others not at all 2) some things sound a little too sibilant. Fixable with eq, and mostly an issue on specific tracks Comfort isnt great, the pads are too thin and your ears touch the grills. Also suspect the sub-bass is missing cause the stock pads are to thin to make a seal. with eq and something like the l500 pads its pretty great (also arrived in flawless condition)

Edited review after a few years of listen. It's still my most favorite headphone. I first heard about this from Zeos' youtube channel, which has a demo. Imagine having both the detail of IEMs with the bass of full sized headphones. If you want to hear recordings in the most neutral way possible, this is probably it (for this price range). Its sound signature is totally natural (it activates your ear resonances just like real life). Frequency response is flat but with a small treble spike and a large deep bass rolloff. This causes the treble spike to be fatiguing to listen to for some songs. This treble spike also robs away soundstage quite a bit. I like to equalize a simple 12 db downward slant from 0-20k to remedy these issues. Compared to the HD600's, it is just as neutral sounding, but much clearer in the high treble. However the soundstage is a little better on the HD600s. Note that Japanese imported electronics are different voltage from many places so be sure to buy a correct (center negative) adapter. Or you'll break it on first listen, and cry. Beware that the headband is trash. Mine broke in 2 different places. Cheapest plastic material (ABS). The replacement costs $75 and the higher quality ones cost ~$200, which is ridiculous. so treat these like your baby. Read full review

First .. Considering your yes-no question on comfort I'd have checked a middle box labeled 'sorta' (I recommend you include such a box .. Yes-No is too sterile - life for biological beings such as us is not binary). I've since ordered more comfortable ear cushions. Now to what really counts .. I bought these 'ear speakers' to hopefully experience more realistic sound quality. That goal has been met - in spades. Also, the staging is perfect, just the way I like it with each instrument of a small ensemble reserving its own very special place in my cranium. The most unexpected but very welcome surprise is difficult to describe. Louder simply means louder - no sense that my eardrums are complaining of abuse - if any complaint at all - it's of their just having to work harder. Finally, there's the naturalness of the music - I lose the sense that the music is being pushed through a lot of electronic apparatus .. So .. I can wear them for hours with no sense of inner ear fatigue. My grade for these Stax 'ear speakers' is a well deserved A+.Read full review

If this is a introduction to Stax it's wonderful. Clear tight, airy sound. Not for metal heads who want 140 decibal volumes but otherwise their superb. Much more comfortable with deep cleanly reproduced bass , vocals become more present. Excellent Soundstage. Not a $6000 pair of Stax but then I don't have $10k MacIntosh or Audio Research equipment either. A excellent value. Sounds better than my Sennheiser hd-600's!
