I've had my X3 for about 5 years now. We have horrible carpet (light beige Berber short pile) that picks up every possible stain known to mankind. Did I mention we have two young kids who spill often, two dogs, and a cat? I HATE my carpet in this rental home. But upkeep is part of the deal if you want your deposits back when you move (someday...). We used to rent the commercial version from Walmart at $50+ each time we needed to clean carpet. Realizing that would cost us in the long run we bought the X3 (Refurbished). This carpet cleaner easily works 10x better than any Bissel or other upright brand I've owned. It has a wider brush/spray area so it cleans faster too. If you're thinking about buying one of these I say go for it. Its definitely one of the better purchases Ive made over the years. There are two things that come to mind as far as "negatives" are concerned. 1) The folding handle is too short. I find myself bending over to use this. I wish they had made it about 6" longer to save my back some strain (injuries from people rear ending my car make this painful after a full day of carpet shampooing). 2) Its slightly off balance when empty. If you take the supply tank out and leave the black handle/arm in the up position it has a tendancy to tip over backwards. Other than those two things I really dont have any complaints. This is a great little carpet cleaner! P.S. Google the OxiClean, Fabreeze, & Vinegar carpet cleaning solution you can mix at home. That stuff works just as well as the Rug Doctor brand solutions but at a fraction of the cost.Read full review

I've wanted my own carpet cleaning machine for years but would not settle for the lower end models with brushes which can actually damage your carpeting. I was finally able to purchase a Rug Doctor X3 and have been impressed. I have used it twice inside our home and it cleaned my carpeting very well. I was surprised to see that it even removed some spots which had been in my carpeting for some time. I used the hand attachment on the seats of my car this weekend and was amazed at the amount of dirt it extracted from them. Because most of the water was sucked back up, the seats also dried very quickly. The machine came ready to go right out of the box which was a nice bonus. If I had to try to find something negative about it, the only thing I can think of is the weight. It's fairly heavy to haul up and down the stairs, but I understand that it is heavy because it is made well.Read full review

I'm not providing a long term review - I just received the RDX3 (R2D2's cousin?) a week early and did 5 rooms in an afternoon with the machine. Easier than my old upright steam vac I thought and very satisfied with the results. Following the directions the carpets do come out quite damp - I don't see anything in the instructions about going over an area a second time without the spray but it does advise against 'dry vacuuming' so I didn't do that. I took a chance on the refurbished model and except for packaging that was pretty minimal (it arrived Fedex with a signature required) it looks new to me. I've had pretty good experience with refurbished products so hoping it pays this time. I did look and saw that there is an RD service center reasonably close to me. If there weren't I probably would have gone for 'new' with its longer warranty. The inconveniences? Draining the tank after use - I put it in the bathtub. And the fact that it's pretty easy to knock it over backwards when the collection tank is out.Read full review

This home cleaner is very comparable to the models you can rent in store. It's nice because you are not recycling dirt from everyone else's home though. It cleans much better than my previous cleaner from another manufacturer. I also ordered the upholstery hose. I love having this also. I'd definitely recommend this machine to anyone. It's much easier on my back than my previous "upright" cleaner. The handle easily adjusts and doesnt seem to be as hard on my shoulders and neck.

SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE CHEAPLY BUILT SHAMPOO MACHINES FROM BIG BOX STORE. LAST ONE LASTED ONE USE-BROKE BY SECOND TIME. I LOOK FORWARD TO MANY CLEANINGS WITH THIS MACHINE
