Before buying the French 1,I had used the Quick and Simple French and found it very useful for practicing my speaking and pronunciation; therefore, I decided to continue. I have used other French courses but they mainly focused on written grammar which I already knew, and, since this course is 100% oral practice, it was just what I needed. This course is very interactive and makes you feel as if you are actually having a conversation with a native French person. I enjoy it so much that I'm planning to continue with the French II and III. The price was just right for me and the CD's are all in excellent shape. For anyone who wants practice speaking French, this course is great! French 1 comes with 16 CD disks, with 30 language lessons.
I wasn't certain I'd like learning French just by listening, repeating and responding to cds but it is a very good course. I pop it in while driving or take it with me while walking when I don't mind others think I'm talking to myself. :) I highly recommend it.

I bought a half dozen less expensive language audio programs, plus a much more expensive software program (Rosetta Stone), but Pimsluer is by far my favorite. I stared out with Quick and Simple French, and it was a big decision to cough up nearly $200 for the 16 CD set, but it was worth it! Each lesson builds on the last, adding a few words or verbs and constantly asking you to answer. The reading lessons that start after the 9th lesson give you an understanding of how the language looks and how words are spelled. I have just bought French II and I am definitely going to buy French III when I've finished with that. I am very happy with what I already know, and I didn't know any French two months ago.
This is a very comprehensive language training program that avoids having you memorize nouns like some other programs. Instead, from the very first lesson you are immersed in simple conversations. When you hear a conversation between two people at the beginning of the lesson you may not recognize one word; however, by the end of the lesson you will understand most, if not all of the conversation. The instructor asks you questions throughout that you have to answer aloud and he keeps referring to previous lesson material to help reinforce progression. It is a fun and rewarding way to learn a new language. You can go to the website and try the first lesson for free (like I did) to see for yourself.
Pimsleur Language CD's are the best language learning system I've found after trying quite a few.
