Has a soft feeling when hitting the ball, but the ball really does go off the head. Nice sound as well. Doesn't balloon up on me. I use a regular shaft and gained an easy 10yds with this driver. Same loft as my old driver (Tommy Armour Torch). I actually like the Torch as well and it's a good driver if you don't want to spend much money, but this Ping is well worth the premium. You can feel the difference.
Be careful when you buy. The stock shafts that Ping has, the Serrano and the TFC 149 are fairly whippy. I bought the TFC 149 in Stiff flex and if I am not careful, I will duck hook the tee shot. They are also fairly light shafts...60-64 gms. I think the key is to be aware, and if you take a good cut at the ball, go for a shaft with lower torque or Xtra Stiff. Do not just order the stock shaft, but check all options for shafts on the Ping website. I do feel that this club head is far better than the G10 clubhead.
I'm what I would call a 'high handicap' player...average ~low-mid 90's (only been playing seriously for about a year). I've 'experimented' with about every driver available (R11, Burners, FT Tour, GT, 910, Launchers) and some I've hit decent but never consistent enough for me to be in the fairway even half of the time!... THAT IS, until I tried a G15!..I had never previously thought of trying a Ping driver until I was talking to my local golf shop salesman (who I've come to know pretty well!..lol)...picked up a G15 to feel it and the salesman said.."if you have a tendency to 'miss it left' that's not the driver you want!"...which, I'm thinking that's the exact opposite of my average slice!..soooo, hell, maybe it will help out my drive!.. So, I picked one up to try and I have been tickled to step on the tee box ever since!!... The number of fairways I hit in a round has literally doubled!...soo much easier to hit!..AND it's longer than 99% of the other drivers I've tried.... Ping has also done an excellent job of making a shaft for these heads that is perfect for about every flex!!... I've since tried another G15 with an aftermarket (real) "high end" shaft (~$300 shaft) in the same flex and had a significant loss in distance! I'm sure the aftermarket shaft was on the higher end of the stiff flex range vs. the Ping...but regardless I'll stick with the Ping shaft for all around performance!!!....THANK YOU PING!!!Read full review
Very pleased with the proformance so far. The stock shaft fits my swing tempo and speed very well. The TFC149 regular flex would be a little soft for a strong hitter, but for my age "69" it feels better then anything else I tried in the last few years. You can buy these for a third of the price of a G20, which I have not seen much differance in the feel or distence.
I've played with just about all top brand drivers. By far this one is not only easy to hit but light weight, great center of gravity for mis-hits. The ball launches high and you can work it left or right. I chose the regular shaft, 10.4 loft and regular head. (Non draw since I have a tendancy to hit a slight hook or draw anyway). This club is cheaper than the higher end clubs as well and even though you may lose 10 yards or so, you're likely to hit more fairways. The fairways at the club where I play are extremely difficult to hit out of. So, I would rather be a little short and down the middle than long and in the gunch. Not to say you can't blast a 300 yard drive with this club. It's just more forgiving than any that I've used.
