Terrific DVD...it's amazing to see how World Series highlight DVDs have changed over the decades. Now they have on-field sound from microphones planted under bases, in the bullpen, in the dugouts. Camera angles have changed from the first-base line upper deck camera to multiple angles, and the narration is more than a mere recitation of stats. And that's just the technical stuff...for Yankee fans, this was a terrific Series. The good guys won, with both dramatic comebacks and old-fashioned offensive and pitching domination. Alex Rodriguez lifted his personal curse with two key hits in the World Series, and several key home runs in the playoffs. Some of those playoff highlights are included as a bonus feature. It starts with the Yankees moving out of the old ballpark in 2008, with Derek Jeter's great impromptu speech. The DVD reminds you of why the Yankees were likable this year. You also get the usual features...exclusive interviews, unusual video, special effects, which have become the standard for all the recent World Series highlight videos. An interesting thing for me is how they figure out the story line. In 1996, it was about Yankee resilience. In 1998, it was about capping a momentous record-breaking season. In 1999, it was the coronation of the "Team of the Century." 2000 was about the New York Subway Series, complete with conductors and subway sound effects. 2001 was about more resilience in the face of 9/11 and comebacks. 2003 was about how the young and spunky Florida Marlins made the Yankees look old and tired. 2004 was Denis Leary and the Red Sox ending an 86-year curse. And so on. So different from the 1940s-era World Series highlights I've been watching of late. The big things that a baseball fan with any sense of history will like will be the Yankees earning that 27th World Title, which is an incredible number, the snappy level of play, and what I keep going back to, the advances in media technology. Wouldn't it be something to see Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio in Hi-Def color instead of grainy black-and-white? I'm glad that future generations of baseball fans will be able to see more of Derek Jeter, CC Sabathia, and Mariano Rivera than current generations can see of Babe Ruth -- it will enhance and burnish their legendary status. This was just a great moment for Yankee fans...one they should review, remember, and enjoy watching again. And my apologies to Philadelphia Phillies fans. They had a good team, but their only winning pitcher was Cliff Lee. The Phils were not at their best in the Series, with Ryan Howard fanning a record 13 times. Phillie will doubtless say, "This DVD should not be casually discarded. It should be hurled with great force," to steal from Dorothy S. Parker. But, as a Royal Navy lieutenant wrote of the German East Asia Squadron, defeated quite handily in the First Battle of the Falklands in December 1914, "The enemy fought splendidly, but they were quite outclassed."Read full review
I loved this DVD. I'm an avid Yankee Fan and this DVD really brought back the excitement of their winning year and Series Run to the Championship. If you are a Yankee Fan, or are purchasing it for a Yankee Fan, you will not be disappointed. I purchased a second copy just to put away in case something happened to my original copy!
As always MLB does agreat job on their offical videos. Behind the action points of view are my favorite parts. The players insite is really neat and the video is very clear and top of the line. It is great to see the Yankees kick the Phillies butts again and again. JRol said What! I think it was the Yanks in 6 baby.
I purchased this item for a Yankee fan in the family for Christmas. The rest of us are Red Sox fans. I cannot rate this item because I bought it as a gift. Even though our Yankee fan relative is dear to us, her choice of baseball teams is not dear to us, I bought the item to make up for all the years of teasing this family member has endured from us.
I'm completely satisfied with this order.
