This unit has many nice features, but could be a bit better. I personally purchased this one because it would allow me to remotely control speed of each port. My only concern is the slowest speed I can set each port is 512 KB/s and I needed it to go much slower. We have a very slow internet with a maximum of about 92 KB/s and when sharing with others on the network, I still can not slow down individual ports slower than our maximum of 92 KB/s since 512 KB/s is the slowest I can restrict each port, so for me it falls short of what I purchased it to do. Yesterday I did find another freeware software (SelfishNet) that is allowing me to slow down certain IP addresses to the speed controls I was looking for, which so far appears to works well with this switch. So I do recommend this switch, but only wish the Manufacturer would update the firmware software to allow speed controls much lower than 512 KB/s which is still way to fast for our need. On the other hand had our Internet Speed been much greater, then this would have been the perfect switch allowing us to keep someone else from hogging all the internet while starving others on the same network, because there are 4 methods of speed control in the software, but none slow enough to regulate our very slow internet speeds.Read full review

Fantastic little managed switch that's perfect for mobile demos of systems and storage units. The fact that you can partition it into as many as 8 VLANs makes it quite capable for most advanced applications and best practices for protocols like iSCSI that benefit from independent subnets and multipathing at the host layer. Works quite well with Windows 2012 Server R2 and Nimble Storage. Netgear is a pretty trusted brand in my lab setup and I've consistently purchased DLink and Netgear with great results on both. The GS108E is my new favorite switch and I'll plan on getting more in the future and recommending it to others with similar SOHO/demoing needs.
I have used the NetGear Managed switches for several years. Upgraded to the GS108E since I needed more ports. They are very easy to configure....

My wife's veterinary practice was trying to run a couple of its workstations with wireless connections, which was making the veterinary software run painstakingly slow. After buying the Netgear switch and expanding the wired network to those workstation, all speed issues were resolved. This is a very cost-effective solution for multi-users on small networks.

I've only had it a few weeks but for a smaller low budget managed switch this thing does it's job. Will update if anything changes. I'm currently using it with an edgelite router supporting two PC's, an Xbox, WAP and TV.
