What can I say...This product is HOT!!! ( It generates a great deal of heat while in use.) Manufacture quality is high, great looks , easy to use ( hardware wise )...Now to the software : not so great , as with a good deal of Microsoft software written for the engineer and not the ease of the end user...but it gets the job done. Good sound performance and good picture quality ( inclusive of low light operations and true picture color ). VERY short cord ( do not try to use with a tower unless you have a USB extender cord ). Have not had long term but the hide away lens might be problems down the line ( this feature is no longer available in Microsoft 2012 web cam line up ). The camera has an instant connect using Windows Live ( I use other services for my video chat ).+++ Button located top of camera , just above Microsoft logo +++ Indicator light for connection ( the Microsoft logo ), built in directional mike ( next to the logo ). Lens can tilt slightly up and down. Small clip on the back to attach to your monitor ( this design is , by it being small with limited travel , made for a flat laptop display not so much a desktop monitor ). The provided software allows hookup to your video chat systems ( also allow effects to modify what your sending out ). The video editing feature is ok , but not what most end users look to if a power user of video chat systems. The camera is limited to XP and Vista for drivers ( Some say Linux and older Win 9x - Me & 2000 , but I have yet to see them ) . As for Win 7 and Win 8 ... ask Microsoft ( what I have seen on their forums seems to steer people to webcams made for those operating systems platform specific ). If your looking for a GOOD choice, for an xp os, this is a unit I would pick ( though look around a bit prices can bounce greatly for new old stock as well as used. I always appreciated photos and videos, but, sometimes, i couldn't a good quality of images. Thus, i have tried to innovate my webcam here for another with better resolution and performance of images. I decided then, acquire a webcam of the Microsoft with 2.0 Megapixel and test the images through it. My 1º disappointment was that the webcam came with a usb cable very short and it was only possible to install in my laptop. The 2º negative point is that the installation cd is not compatible with the new version of Windows 7. I had to resort to the web site of Microsoft to find the drivers more recent and was arduous install this webcam correctly. However, i needed install it on my computer and for this reason, came the 3º negative point, therefore, i had to buy a cable adapter of 1 m, that i have not encountered with ease. After having solved the previous points, i decided finally test the webcam on my computer and i noted that the images were not of quality as good as described by Microsoft. However, for i did not stay without a webcam here, i decided to use this Lifecam NX-6000 until be able to exchange for another better.Read full review

Bought it to replace the photo detector in a spectrophotometer so that the diffraction grating could stay stationary once aligned . this allows the whole spectrum to be captured in one go Software needed an up data , but with microsoft this is not a problem .The genuine high resolution and brand name played a large part in my decision to buy one Would place this web cam a high end of the market not to be confused with other models claiming 2 meg resolution or more but only having about 360k pixels
Bought this cam for Skyping. If you're using Windows 7 do not use the install CD. Just plug it in and the video and microphone driver will be installed. LifeCam 3.6 software will also be automatically downloaded and installed. Good picture and sound, no major faults, clamps onto Thinkpad screen edges with ease. An overall very good design for laptop use.
