I got the D.K. Merriam-Webster Children’s Dictionary (2005) on e-bay. This book is actually designed for elementary grade students. However, as a college student, and a speaker of English as a second language, I find this book is useful. Why? This book includes features like a standard dictionary: end of line divisions, phonetics, synonym paragraphs and cross-references, homographs, inflected forms, variant spellings, word history, and so on. There are thousands of pictorial illustrations, labeled when appropriate. Definitions are simple, accurate, and condensed. So, the words that you want are quickly found, and you will easily understand them. Furthermore, this book uses glazed paper, nice print, and is at good price. The thing I most like about this book is the clear, realistic, and colorful pictures. Suppose I want to know about the word “armadillo “ with which I am unfamiliar. Looking at the definition with the picture, I get the meaning of “armadillo” within a half second without vagueness. Moreover, I can compare the definition to the picture. Therefore, in a moment, I get two birds in one shot. Even for an adult, Merriam-Webster Children’s Dictionary by DK (2005) is fun to read and get much knowledge. This book attracts to me, and I pick up often just for the joy of it.Read full review
