Mercenaries 2 is a sandbox style shooter. It's a lot like the Grand Theft Auto series, only without the music. Mercs 2 is very similar to Mercs 1. The game is set in Venezuela (the funny thing is the people speak English). You go around completing missions such as kidnapping military officials, stealing things for pirates, and blowing things up. If you aren't sure about Mercs 2 try Mercs 1 first since you can get it cheaper and they play very similar. UPDATE: After playing this game for a while, I would have to recommend avoiding this game. It loads endlessly. It was ported over from the PS3 to the PS2. Every mission requires driving a ridiculous amount of time in cars that spin-out with the slightest bump or braking, and certain missions can be derailed by having your vehicle destroyed or by accidentally running over a pedestrian in your shopping cart like car. Running over pedestrians doesn't end the mission automatically, but you are punished severely for it as the friendliness towards you by all factions drops--even if no one was around to see it. Mercenaries (the first one) was good, but Mercenaries 2 seems to lack polish. Tanks move slooow. There are collision problems with the tanks. Sometimes they refuse to cross a bridge due to some invisible barrier and sometimes they cannot even go over a curb. The game looks blurry and foggy. Objectives are not clearly defined and are not restated anywhere I can find. The menu is tedious. The good air strikes are prohibitively expensive. When you die in a mission and choose to continue said mission, you start all the way from the beginning including the ridiculous drive time. OHHHHH the drive time! In Mercs 1, you blow up large monuments. In Mercs 2, you look for tiny briefcases and such. Not fun. I don't know what happened with this game, but it's like they tried to suck all the fun out of it and instead tried to extend the play time by artificially extending loading and driving times. Trust me, avoid this game. As I recall, the first game had load time problems, drive time issues and car handling problems, but they were not as bad as this. Not only were these problems not improved, they regressed to ridiculous amounts. I'm not a hater, I loved the first one, but this one--WHEW--does it stink. Final Update: I just beat the game. It shouldn't even be called a game. It should be called an expansion pack. Remember, how I compared Mercenaries 2 to Mercenaries one, well here's one more thing: In the first one you had to capture 52 terrorists. Then there was another deck after that for a total of 104 bad guys. In Mercenaries 2 that number is reduced to a ridiculous 10 bad guys. I guess this is the reason they made the driving in missions soooo long. There really isn't much game here. I finished the game basically without using any of the cool missile strikes mostly because I could never afford them. If they allowed them to be used, this game could probably be beaten in twenty hours of game play. And that's with all the annoying driving included, which is loooong.Read full review

Amazingly fun game no matter ur age can blow anything up and have fun doing it. the set up in the game is great also. the difficulty in the game is different for every player depending on how well u are with these types of games. My Opinion is this is a fun game to play at any time
This game has some cool new features the first one didn't. I like the graphics and all the different things you can do in the game. Both this and Mercenaries are great games all in all. I put them in the top games I've played on the PS2.
This is an excellent game though it may not have an excellent story or the game-play might be lacking it is still very nice to just shoot something every once in a while. The game has a rather simple objective complete missions and make sure no one is to angry at you other wise you might have a battle on your hands. I gave this an 8.4 out of 10 What it lacks in story is more than made up in just plain fun.
