The book is short and sweet discussing fruit trees in alphabetical order. Thus, I would say it will be a good reference book for myself as time goes on because it has short discussions on each type of tree. It does state what to prune, when to prune and how to prune for each fruit. The pictures are helpful too. Since I am new at this I would have liked a little more detail for a new plum tree that is around 2-3 years old verses see the Training Young Trees section (because the shapes are different. My plum is more like a "V" and my apple is more "funnel" like. But once I read the sections of interest in this book plus Grow A Little Fruit Tree I understand better what I needed to do. So, in my opinion I would recommend someone purchase both this book and the one I just stated. I do not have a large backyard and my neighbors have cherry trees that are coming over the wall into my yard. Yet their trees are not producing hardly any fruit. Now I know why as neither of them does anything to their tree. I just planted (late Sept.) a semi-dwarf apple and plum and I want to keep them small enough so we get just enough "good" fruit to eat and we are able to pick all of the fruit the trees produce. This book does discuss berries too and that was very informative.Read full review
