This product is made in China, and is a slightly scaled down version of previous US made units. Plastic is slightly thinner, wheels are still small, made from hard plastic, and not convertible for outside use, even with standard blower arrangement available. It does have a variety of attachments that come standard, and 2 wire hangers for cord and hose storage. Sadly, though clearly re-engineered, it doesn't improve functionality over previous models in areas that have always been deficient, like caster size and construction, and is less rugged compared to older models. Also, detaching lid to empty the base is more difficult due to modified latches. As Shop-Vac no longer produces the older version, and parts for those models have been discontinued, this is what you will have as a modern replacement, unless you are willing to do a motor replacement yourself for almost the same price as the new model. All-in-all, just barely competent re-engineering which fails to modify the unit in a way that makes any significant improvements in functionality. OK for standard shop use, though, due to motor size and filter options, which is why I gave it 4 stars.Read full review

The latch mechanisms are fragile and not of the same quality as the vacuum as a whole. Easily broken and not reliable to keep the vacuum and base secure. Pick it up the vacuum by the handle and you might have a big mess on your hands. 5 star product degraded by a weak latching mechanism. Older Craftsman vacuum of this style have latches that are much better designed.

I owned one of these Craftsman vacuums back in the early '80's. I bragged to everyone about its great suction for picking up both solids and liquids. I loved it. The large hose diameter also sets it apart from other so-called shop vacuums that have house vacuum size hoses. I have had a couple of those vacuums in the interim, and for me the debris always jams up in the hose and time is wasted clearing the jams. So fast forward to 2017. I saw this one on eBay and wondered if the new ones were still as good as the old one I had. Well, this vacuum does everything the old one did, plus the on board hose and tool storage make it even better in that regard. I appreciate the fact that while others cut costs by giving a short cord, Craftsman decided to stay with a longer electrical cord to eliminate or minimize having to use extension cords. Kudos to them.Read full review

This replaces the similar Craftsman shop vac that I have used for 25 years. That one the motor finally burned out. This new vac has some better features - hose locks onto vac with the handles, on/off switch mounted on top for easy access, it is much quieter, and a smaller footprint using less space in my shop

The best feature of this vac is the suction power. The other 'pros' are noise level, the accessories that come with the unit and places to store them on the unit, the length of the power cord, and they make a washable filter for it, but it's not the one that comes with it. The 'cons' are: it doesn't include the brush attachment which is what I use with my shop vac about 80% of the time. You can find them easily for about $10. The cost of the filters (about $20 for the standard paper one, and about $24 for a washable one), Once the filter gets loaded with dust, the suction power drops considerably, so instead of a new filter, I'm using a brush to clean off the one that came with the vac. I might buy a washable filter and see how it works. All in all, I'm satisfied with it.
