This antenna is really compact, making it easy to install. The performance from this small package is ENORMOUS! I'm no longer tied to a satellite company whose signal was often lost during rain or snow. The best thing is that I'm no longer paying to rent someone else's equipment. If you want to record programs, you can purchase the Channel Master DVR+ unit and have the same functionality as cable or satellite.

When I first "cut the cable" and switched to over-the-air viewing I started with a Terk model FDTVO which is very similar in design to the SMARTenna except the Terk has a built in preamplifier. I live in an area with stations to the North and the Southwest. The omnidirectional design worked well but during a heavy rain storm water penetrated the housing and the preamp quit working. I changed to a dual Yagi antenna (2-RCA ANT751) with one pointed N and the other pointed SW. Both setups were mounted outside atop a 25 ft mast. I got the notion to go back to an omnidirectional antenna which led me to the CM antenna. It works well however I did have to reuse the preamplifier from my RCA setup to pickup the same number of stations as I did with the Terk and RCAs. I get a total of 66 channels several are 50+ miles away. One complaint is this antenna seems to struggle with channels in the VHF band. It does fine with UHF channels. All in all it works well but I plan to revert to my dual antenna configuration as it gave more consistent reception in all frequency bands.Read full review
