I am huge fan of the original Battlestar Galatica. The movie is excellent with a great plot weird characters, a great start to a series that should of had more seasons. The movie arrived quickly, new condition, and I got it for an excellent price. I would recommend this to any sci-fy lover, Star Wars freak like me. It's a great start for a great t.v. series.

Die hard fans of the series will know that the original TV miniseries was slightly re-edited and shown as a Theatrical release. So what is the difference, should you spend your money on this or on the entire series or even both? The main differences between this DVD and the entire original TV series are: 1)This is just the original pilot presented as a feature film 2) This is presented in the widescreen format. The second is important because it's a sharper overall picture than what's on the TV collection. It has also been edited in such a way where it's more of a stand alone show, particularly concerning the fate of one of the main villans of the series. Also note that this is not a telefilm, which was popular with the original series, especially overseas. This was actually released in theaters in the late 70's to capitalize on the TV success and the popularity of Star Wars. I like it because it's a sharper and cleaner presentation on larger TV's, and is nice to see an alternate version of the original episode. It's curious why this wasn't included with the otherwise comprehensive Complete TV Series, except, of course, to be used as an extra marketing tool for what was the then upcoming new TV miniseries. If you can get it for a good price it's a great addition.Read full review
It is the 7th Millennium of time as the Capricans and the people of 11 other colonies enjoy an uneasy truce with their mortal enemies, the Cylons. Even the crew of the Battlestar Galactica seem to be revelling in this uneasy peace even on the eve of the signing of an armistice of peace. Everyone that is, except Commander Adama. Commander Adama is suspicious of this new peace. Without warning, the Cylons launch a massive ambush against the colonies. Wave after wave of Cylon fighters pour toward the colonies bringing death, destruction and chaos in their wake. Word of the attack spreads to Commander Adama who brings the Galactica to a state of Battle Alert and orders all Viper squadrons to bare. Even as the battle rages in space between Vipers and Cylons, it becomes painfully clear to Adama and the rest of the crew, they can do nothing to help their home colonies. One by one, a similar story is told as each of the colonies is devastated by the Cylons. Adama orders the Viper squadrons back aboard the Galactica as she sets course away from the colonies and out into the unknown reaches of the universe. With the strife of what's just happened slowly setting in, the crew realizes they can't go back and must set a course for a new world.. a world called Earth. But the Cylons are not so easily dissuaded as they continually dog the Galactica again and again forcing Adama to call upon the Viper Squadrons to defend her.Read full review
Edited from the first few episodes of the Epic TV Series, this theatre-released version is a lot of fun. A great story coupled with top acting and nice camera angles makes this well worth watching. Lorne Greene is excellent as Commander Adama. Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict come across very well as Captain Apollo and Lieutenant Starbuck--top pilots and best friends. Jane Seymour plays the roll of Serina to perfection. The special effects, though maybe not up to today's standards, are cutting edge for the late seventies. The space battles are downright breathtaking at times. All in all... a very enjoyable movie.
