Thomas Keller is the only American chef to have been awarded simultaneous three-star Michelin ratings for two different restaurants. He is, quite simply, phenomenal. "Ad Hoc" is a cookbook for the rest of us--it has family-style recipes like barbecued chicken and strawberry shortcake), plus lots of lessons and instructions to help anyone become a better cook. If his "French Laundry Cookbook" is a bit fancy for what you want to do every day, "Ad Hoc" is a great, approachable cookbook by a master chef.

Another excellent cookbook by Thomas Keller, but this one is highly accessible for the home cook. I love my Bouchon and French Laundry cookbooks, but I already know that this will be the one that is pulled from the shelf most often. It doesn't take advanced skills to make pretty much any recipe, as far as I can recall. And recipes aren't built around hard to find specialty ingredients with no equivalent substitutions.
Thomas Keller is one of my very admired chef. He created recipes that can be easily sourced and created at home. I find many comfort food recipes in the book worth trying.

Another great book by Thomas Keller. Beautiful photography. Get the DVD on him too. Not the stereotypical snobby chef.
