Overall, it's a decent game if you are a Samurai Shodown fan or collector. I bought it mainly as a collector's item, not expecting too much incredible gameplay on the Neo Geo Pocket and I wasn't disappointed. Nothing surprising in the gameplay. Basically, take a subset of the list of Samurai Shodown characters and fight your way to the end. There are single player and survival modes to keep you busy. The gameplay is a limited by the lack of buttons on the Neo Geo Pocket (only two). There are slash and bust modes to extend the game time. Also, there is a card collecting feature which adds a nice twist. The good: The graphics are pretty decent for this little system, as are the sounds. They picked a good palette for the screen, given that it is not backlit. The moves are pretty intuitive and I don't imagine it would take more than about 5 minutes to become pretty capable at the game. Also, for a fan of the Samurai Shodown series, the feel and gameplay is very enjoyable. The bad: This game is really short. I guess that's due to the fact it is a portable game and has no save feature...so you have to finish it in one sitting.Read full review
Still incomparable when played on original SNK hardware, SS2 is a highlight of weapons-based 2D fighting games. Great characters, easy to pick up and play but with enough depth to keep you coming back for more. If you have a Neo Geo, then this is a must have title...especially considering how cheap it is compared to newer, "better" NG fighting games.

If you have a Neo Geo system or Neo Geo CD, then you have to find this Samurai Showdown 2 playable for that system. The original Samurai Showdown was good, but this one is off the charts. When it was on arcade, I remember spending quarter after quarter and hours trying to master it. When compared to other SNK arcade smashes on Neo Geo, this game has to be the best. It doesn't have as many characters as some of the others, but you'll love the variety in such a medium character group. For instances, there are some that are traditional blade slashers, as you would expect from a samurai(such Haohmuri, Hanzo, Calford, Kyoshiri, or Jubei), and some that use other ways to fight, such as Cham Cham(boomerang and animal claw), Gen an(oversized claw), Sieger(super fist), Wan fu(big hard bale), or Nicotine(using a combo of magic and smoke). This contrast between fighting styles and characters are the reasons this game is one of the best of all time. This also has super fast paced action, super addictive regular and super moves, literally explosive animations, excellent backgrounds, and this game has only one level, hard. Each fighter's ultimate weapon breaker move is displayed at the bottom of the screen. The villian at the end with the evil dog is hard and the Black Ninja with the flags that you may fight somewhere in the middle is probably harder than that. If you can master the moves and learn how to block all your opponents moves and know when to expect those moves, then you'll simply love this game! Not a game for those who are looking for an easy game! If you have some issue with Mature Fighting Games, then note that this game does not have nudity or anything like that; however, it does have a little bit of violence and bloodshed.Read full review
Very good fighting game, but by no means the best one for NGPC. It's great in the sense that it's different from other fighting games. It values fewer big hits instead of slowly chipping away at an opponent's health, which is both a pro and a con depending on what you like. All in all, it's a very good fighting game, especially for the price. Match of the Millennium is better, in my opinion at least, but is much more expensive and much rarer than this, so if you want a good fighting game for NGPC and don't want to go into collectible level prices, this is a good game for you.
i love this product if you are a neo geo fan I think you should buy this product
