I bought this about a year ago and I'm still surprised how many tricks in this book I've actually used. Not to mention how many tricks I've forgotten over the years that were right here waiting for me to rediscover. This is a widespread arrangement of magic, that has something for every kind of magician. For a beginner in magic this book is an encyclopedia of material for around the price you would normally pay for an effect. For the intermediate magicians this is your point of reference for all things magic that you may be rusty at from not performing in a while. The book ranges from clever tricks to fool your friends to elaborate stage magic such as floating and assistant in mid air. The fundamentals and advice are top notch. I also like how some tricks and flourishes have a few words on the inventors and history of the trick. A book like this teaches young magicians most of the fundamentals that usually get skipped over when you jump into magic by learning through online dealers. This book has more material and routines then you'll find in any beginner crash course in magic. The card and coin chapters are the perfect intro into close up magic. Learn in detail from wonderful illustrations and clever wording, how to get the effects down with practice. Whether it's cards, coins, closeup, stage, or mentalism the chapters will guide you along from beginner to advanced effects. Not to mention a full cup and balls routine. You would think that since the book centers around journal entrys from magician MR. Mysterio, who died in 1936, that some of the tricks would be out dated. But the book features many tricks that came out afer Mysterio died. For example the effect Cellular Psychic is a mentalism effect using a cellphone and having a spectator select a freely chosen item, then the magician calls a friend from anyone in the audience's phone and sure enough the person on the line knows what the spectator picked before the call. I mostly do closeup or street magic and I used a lot of the tricks here for gathering material and for tightening up my fundamentals. However, if I decide to branch off and try other forms of magic this will be where I look first. Learning from a book has never been this easy.Read full review
This is a great book for anyone who wants to become a magician but doesn't know where to start. It teaches all the foundational knowledge and skills that every magician needs to know. Unfortunately not all magicians have had a book such as this to guide them.
