I have probably 5 or 6 Myerchin knives new and old. I love the old better for the higher quality 440 stainless blade. I prefer the new ones for the clip and the one hand opening blade. Do NOT get the ones with the wood handles- the body rusts and the screws if you take it apart are very hard to get back together without slop in the blade. Get the titanium one. Much lighter, and the body won’t rust. I regret that the blade is not as quality as the old Myerchin, but it is close. The newest ones have a lever on the blade that you can press to start it open, then you flick you wrist and it will open the rest of the way. I love that. I do not like the lanyard loop, which is very flimsy and fell out the first day. Why did they make that important part so cheap??? Overall, it’s still a keeper and the pocket clip is a welcome addition. Read full review

I originally wanted the Spiderco marlin spike knife but at over $200 just couldn't justify it. First of all I'm not a rigger and seldom have need for marlin spike. I just like knives. Being left handed I chose this particular model since I do carry my knife inside my left pocket and one handed is a must. That said the knife is well made a has a smooth action. It was very sharp out of the box and really holds an edge. It does have liner locks for both the blade and marlin spike so when opening the blade it's important not to snap it open too hard or else it's really difficult to unlock. Being left handed it is a 2 hand operation to close- a right handed person would not have this problem. One thing I did't realize is how wide the knife is - it's just under 1 7/8" wide so it feels really bulky in the pocket. Last thing, I prefer a part serrated blade but no more than 1/2 the blade. Myerchin serrated blades appear to be around 75% serrated that leaves too little straight edge for my needs. Overall it's a really well made knife with smooth precise acton. Country of origin is not stamped anywhere.Read full review

I typically buy folding knives in the 3” blade, this knife no different. Folded this knife has a large footprint, larger than anything I own, but makes up for it in thinness. It is easily carried. Blade comes sharp. Marlin spike and knife size make opening knots easy. I do see where the titanium is easily scratched but guess that’s price for reduced weight. Blade flipper not as clean as on some knifes but is functional. Blade can be deployed and folded single handed. Some may find pocket clip a bit large but not a problem for me, looks like stainless with near mirror finish. Always with Myerchin, great quality.

This is a great knife, easy to open- easy and safe locking mechanism. Very sharp. And the marlin spike is long and works for any size knot.

Exactly what i am looking for in my first captains knife. I recently learned how to splice lines and love the combo knife and marlin spike. Would be nice to have a little serrated edge but maybe in my next knife.
