I bought 'A Very Minty Christmas' for my son, who recently decided that My Little Pony was the coolest thing since dinosaurs or Thomas the Tank Engine. Since one of his favourite ways to chill at the end of a busy day at preschool is to watch a movie, I thought he'd enjoy this title. He certainty did, and I can wholeheartedly say that if you have a child who really loves MLP, then he or she will also love this movie. The plot is typically Hasbro simple--'Minty' the perfectionist pony can't keep her hooves out of anything, and this results in her destroying the special lighted candy cane on the top of the huge Ponyville Christmas tree. In despair that Santa won't be able to find Ponyville without the light, Minty tries to travel to the North Pole to find Santa and make sure he has directions. Naturally this goes badly, and Minty is rescued by all the other citizens of Ponyville, who have come out in droves to ensure her safety. Of course Santa finds Ponyville anyway (he's *magic*, yo), but the message is that love, loyalty (and forgiveness) is the real meaning of Christmas. I can tell it's not my son's favourite movie, because he's only asked to see it about ten times instead of fifty, but he enjoys sympathizing with Minty's dilemma, finds her adventure adequately suspenseful for the preschool set (at least the preschool set whose Mommies won't let them watch any movies rated above G), and loves the music and all the Ponies hugging, ice skating and riding in their hot-air balloons. He also liked the message behind Minty's journey, though he was still happiest for the ponies because they all got presents anyway. All-in-all this is a pleasant enough movie for the winter holidays or a rainy afternoon. It wasn't unbearably cutesy, the pony voices didn't grate on my nerves, and there was even a laugh or two for the jaded grown-ups. I definitely can't recommend it as the best kid's Christmas movie ever, but I will say it's a great buy for the price.Read full review
This VHS is still sealed in the original packaging, enabling me to use it for a birthday gift to my granddaughter on November 29th. That way she will be able to view it during the holiday season to get maximum enjoyment and meaning from the video. I did not expect to get a brand new one. This one will have special meaning.
My little 3 year old daughter loved this movie. The story is cute and its good for kids to learn that they can make mistakes, and have accidents, and their family and friends will love them no matter what, because thats what life is about right? I would recommend this movie to any my little pony lover. I have a feeling we will be watching it all through the year.
I haven't rec'd it yet however I have rented it before for the kids. I bought it for my daughters birthday at the end of November. She loves Minty and she is so hard to find. I like the fact it is a VHS and not a DVD because my daughter is rough with her things and DVD's are too fragile. Also I cannot find VHS's anywhere any more.
My daughter is four and she absolutely loves this video. There are great musical numbers that aren't too cheezy and the story is easy for kids to follow. I guess if you are teaching religion in your household the story line would be kind of muddled for your kids, but it does offer a non-religious take on Christmas.
