I feel this film is among his top 5 to date. Not the very best, but has all the Anderson hallmarks. Whimsical narration, great cinematography, a lot of character actors sharing a multifaceted storyline than a certain lead actor upstaging everyone else. I liked it better the second time around, as I believe my expectations were too high when I saw this in the theatre, but I was not disappointed. Moonlight Kingdom stands on it's own as a film, as it's really not quite like other Anderson films, although the styling certainly is. Perhaps you could say that about them all. It's very lighthearted even at it's most serious. The Blu-ray picture quality is very detailed and I am happy with the audio. Ive always enjoyed Anderson soundtracks. Packaging is appealing, and although I don't put too much stock in box presentation, it looks and feels well made unlike some more haphazard artwork, and flimsy blu-ray snap cases, etc. Anderson films seem to always get accepted in the Criterion collection, and this might be one I'd like to hear more interviews and behind the scenes. But I've settled for the regular blu-ray edition this time. I have Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore in the Criterion blu-rays, and they're the greatest. But those are my absolute two favorites of his films. Moonrise would be among my top 5 Anderson films I guess. Read full review

Great quirky comedy with a tremendous oddball cast. The two younger actors stand their ground with the likes of Bill Murray, Frances McDermott and Bruce Willis. The nostalgic setting and story of young love make this a great addition to some of Anderson's best, ranking up there with The Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore. The only drawback to the disc are that the special features on the Blu-ray ONLY work with a player that is connected to the internet. Other than that, the picture and sound are superb.
I would recommend this (and any Wes Anderson Movie, my 2nd favorite being The Budapest Hotel) for people who want a different type of movie making. Anderson has his own style and it is not "Hollywood". The movie itself is a movie about two kids and as typical; there is an Orphan. Well done. Watch it IF you like the off-beat.

I loved every bit of this enchanting "out of the box" romantic adventure film. So clever, so visually stimulating. This is what movie, great movie making is all about. Never a dull moment, something for the whole family, and anyone who lived during the mid 1960s. A film to be bought, cherished and watched in regular rotation. In case I didn't mention it... I loved it. Cheers, Max Rainet A movie lover for life.
I had heard many people talking about how great this movie was, so I rented it....I watched it the next day and IMMEDIATELY bought a copy for my collection. This is one of those stories that will bring back faded memories of your first love so sweetly! The acting is great and we are introduced to two young actors/ actress that will surely make a name for themselves in the film industry. If you are a movie fan, I recommend you buy this one as I did, for you will certainly want to watch it again...and again!!!
