I am giving this 4 stars, instead of 5, because it can't be used to create a "T" junction of really big wires (e.g., both #12). But for typical connections between a big "Through" wire (the power source, typically #12 or #14) and a smaller outdoor lamp cord (typically #18), it is absolutely the best. Inside, there are actually 3 sets of wire channels: For the "Through" wire, it provides a choice of larger and smaller channels, and a waterproof channel blocker for the one you don't use. This is the product to get!

I've used similar cable connectors previously and expected these to work just as well. Unfortunately, after placing the low voltage cables into the connector, the corners of the Moonrays connector just cracked off the body when I tightened the screws before the prongs could pierce the cable jacket, resulting in no connection. I gave up and just used wire nuts and electrical tape. That did the job. I was satisfied with the price and shipping from the supplier, but that did little since I cannot use the Moonray connectors.

These connectors are great for almost any low voltage landscape lighting arrangement and offer flexibility in your overall wiring layout. The connectors do not offer a specific connection point for #14 wire, only #12, #16, and #18, but I was able to successfully use the #12 channel with #14 wire . Would recommend.

Moonrays are a great way to extend one's electrical connections for additional lighting. I used to fix a couple of bad connections I made - Moonrays were simple to use and make waterproof connections, a plus. A downside one must be aware of is for standard low voltage landscape lighting, the insulation is quite thick and tough. Moonrays , on two tries, did not successfully pierce the insulation on this type of cable, bending the pointed contacts inside the housing. I ended up using a different solution. If attempting to attach to this type of cable again, I would pre-pierce the insulation at locations where internal barbs are to connect. Smaller gauges of wire with thinner insulation were no problem. Overall, Moonrays are an adequate solution.

Is it intuitive? Yes. The connector can be assembled without reading the directions (though this is not recommended.) Your cable must be pierced by the pointed contacts in such a way that contact with the wires beneath the insulation is made. This can be tricky and may cause some frustration. If the light you are connecting with flickers, reposition the wire slightly and try again. Be sure to tighten the halves of the connector tightly to prevent water seepage. These connections are not meant for installation in standing water.
