I have been waiting for this series to come out on dvd for quite some time. I remember watching this show as a kid, often on the sly because my parents were somewhat overprotective. It is produced by the same team (minus George Romero) behind Tales From the Darkside. This series is mostly horror with a few forays into sci-fi, so don't expect any fantasy episodes akin to those sometimes presented in Tales From the Darkside or the 80s incarnation of the Twilight Zone. Unlike either of the aforementioned series, Monsters does include several humorous episodes. Like the other horror anthology shows produced for network television in that era (late 80s - early 90s), it is a bit uneven quality wise with regard to both the stories and effects. However there are some true gems among this series as the stories of several genre greats, including Stephen King and Dan Simmons, are mined for source material. As for the dvd set itself, the packaging design is rather nice and the transfers for the most part look and sound pretty good given the low-budget quality of the television show. There are a few episodes where the image quality is a bit grainy or the sound quality is uneven. My only real beef with this release, if you could call it that, is that it is totally bereft any sort of special features. I'm sure anyone such as myself who is a fan of the series would enjoy some alternate takes/deleted scenes or interviews with those involved in creating the show. However, seeing as this is the first (and probably last) time this series has ever been legitimately released on dvd, I won't be overly critical. I'm just glad eOne Entertainment has finally made this series available to those of us who remember it fondly. A great addition to the collection of any lover of the horror genre.Read full review
By todays standards it would be 'light horror' but it was good and had lots of monsters. The picture quality is excellent and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I remember when it 1st came on TV and the picture is much clearer and details are much better than it was then. Any horror fan should love it.

Usually one of the discs would come apart from the DVD holder but I am glad this did not arrive broken like I have experienced before buying collections like this. I remember when there was a petition for consumers a few years back for this and I am amazed that someone listened and did the right thing since Tales From The Darkside has been released for years. I remember back in the 80's when Tales From The Darkside and Monsters would run on network TV back to back, once a week. I am glad that I have this in my personal collection.

Been eyeballing this set for years. Finally pulled the trigger. It worth every penny. Nostalgia and great scripts for its time. Still entertaining! I looked forward to these episodes every Saturday night. Thank you much!

All I can say is if you loved Monsters in the 80's and re-runs in the early 90's then you have to buy this. Some of the episodes are corny but others still stand today. If your a Tales from the Crypt fan, you have to have this.
