Mirage of Blaze is an excellent anime for yaoi and shounen ai fans, and a compelling introduction to the genre for first-timers. The storyline is an intruiging mass of drama and action above layers on layers of mysterious history. There is a nicely developed array of multi-faceted characters that will draw you further into the plot. The music alone is some of the best I've heard in an anime, and fits the plot and characters perfectly. The dialogue, while a little on the cheesy side at times, was equally well crafted enough to lead the viewer on without being blatant. Also, character motivation and other storyline hints are usually dropped subtley in other ways, with enough remaining fogginess to be misleading. This is one of the aspects that makes the anime so wonderful, in my opinion. The characters are real enough to not always say or do what they mean. Many times, the viewer has to attempt to look beyond that. Mirage of Blaze is up in the ranks along with Fullmetal Alchemist and Saiyuki, and trumps them both on engrossment level. I've never been so intensely involved in the plot of an anime, like I was for MOB. Once I started watching, I couldn't stop until I'd hit the end. Overall, I give the entire series an 'excellent' rating. Great plot and realistically supernatural characters make for a smashing anime that you won't be disappointed in.Read full review
