Its compact size and weight was what I was looking for. The glass quality was good, but the focus adjustment really need some work! I tested the scope out to 350 yards and the image was clear and sharp. But, agian the issue with the focus adfjustment made focusing difficult at long range at full 30 power. The eye relif is ok, but I would prefer longer eye relif. The overall quality and function is acceptable for a scope at this price range ($200 to $300), but I expect Minox be a notch higher than the rest. Minox must be mindful about their competitors who are offering better quality scopes in the saame price range. In my opinion Minox actually comes in at the lower end of spectrum than its competitors. The term "made in Germany" or "designed in Germany" can nolonger be the quality gurantee it used to be. Again, knowing the history of Minox and its product from the yester years I am really not happy with this scope. But like what I have said ealier, its a acceptable quality for the money, but the name "Minox" may no longer represent quality in the future.Read full review
Great Spotting Scope, I purchased the straight scope so I can use it with an adapter on my digital camera, not the angled scope pictured. Very clear views and easy to use, the instructions are clear and easily understood. It will be put to good use this hunting season and pre-season sighting in. The compact size and wieght of the Minox MD 50 and distances I experience hunting were two very important factors with my choice to purchase. I've never owned a spotting scope prior, however I've had the use of family and friends spotting scopes that were considerably more expensive and did not have the clarity I've experienced with the MD 50.
The scope is small and fairly light. The ergonomics well thought out and it is an attractive package. The controls were somewhat stiff, as you would expect on a new scope. Clarity was average to below average when compared to a Leupold or Nikon both of which are more expensive. More like a lower end Burris, Tasco or Weaver product, consistent with the price. The scope is not eyeglass friendly. When wearing spectacles 16 power is merely OK. You have to remove your glasses to use the 20 and higher power ranges.
THis is an excellent lightweight compact spotting scope. I bought it knowing the quality of Minox. The optics are clear and bright it is easy to focus and zoom. I bought it for shooting but I am sure bird watchers and others will appreciate its optical quality. Hikers and backpackers will appreciate thelight weight and compact size as well. Pair it up with an old Leica Table Tripod and Large ballhead for stability.
I used this scope hunting Whitetails in Montana, and it was great. I could count points at long range and had no fogging problems, even at below zero temps. Small and clear- just what a hunter needs.
