Before purchasing it, I had little to no knowledge of the Kallikak study, but was intrigued by the eugenics movement. This book provides a thorough background in the landmark study, as well as the true story of the real Kallikaks (quite different from what Goddard reports in his study) and how Goddard's fabrication of data inadvertently led to societal tragedies (institutionalization of many immigrants, the US Eugenics movement, and inspiring the German eugenics movement and the Final Solution). While Goddard cannot be solely blamed for all of these ills, the invalid results of his study have had an effect that is felt by most individuals (of normal intelligence or otherwise) even today.Read full review
