Lighter than the military one I used in the Army and it doesn't sit flush on a table or map, but all in all. A very nice compass and one that I got my son to help teach him land navigation for scouts.

The facts: the pivot in which the compass bearing rotates is magnetized, so are the screws holding the base and the glass together to the frame. The result is that the bearing taken with the compass will have an error depending in which quadrant you are operating. Further, the compass dial tents to dislodge itself from its pivot, it takes some patience to sit it properly again in order to take a reading. The direction rotating dial is too clumsy to hold a setting. The bubble level is not square with the compass, so it is useless. My compass arrived with an air bubble in the capsule. The argument that you get what you pay for is irrelevant. Buy yourself an ice cream instead. eBay seems to have thousands of this very same compass model under different names, they seem to be all the same. Read full review

Very cheaply made. The various parts of the compass are loose and when they should be tight and hold their position when set. Compass roe dial spins freely and is cheesy. The whole compass feels cheap and poorly made.

Uncle Sam introduced me to a prismatic compass and its use. This model is better than what I used many years ago, no brainer, get one!
