Miele in general is easy to use and maintain. The products have super force and do a fantastic job cleaning, especially in my house where I have several dogs, cats and rabbits, and now a new baby. I have owned a Miele for 15 years, and I either had to refurbish it or buy a newer version. So I checked the web, trying to find out what was available in newer models. I was thrilled to see the HEPA filter feature, and overall ratings were very good on the Silver Moon. It also has several settings so that you can clean wood floors or vinyl as well. Although it is light weight, the power is incredible. I tried it on the light beige rug in the baby's room - incredible! It lifted the scatter rug right off the floor - I had to turn the setting down. And the power head is such low profile that it fits under anything. What surprised me the most was how quiet it is! It is an attractive light sage color (my old one was red), and stores easily. The bags fit well and are easy in-easy out. No rocket science degree needed to run it - I highly recomment this vacuum cleaner!Read full review
Purchassed this Miele since our son needed a good canister for his townhome. We have had a good S4 Miele canister for over 20 years. They are quiet, have great suction and just work terrifically. This one has a little different power floor nozzle and a few more bells and whistles since it's an S5. Got lucky and found a closeout model at a good discount dealer in Florida. Dealer was terrific to work with and it appears this unit will be just as quiet, work as well and be a terrific vacuum. If you're a purist the HEPA filters can be expensive so buy them online vice a retail store. Look on Ebay or elsewhere for a good deal like we got. I couldn't be happier. My son is thrilled with his "new used" S4 red Miele. We had some repairs done recently to our home and one of the repairmen REALLY liked our vacuum. I don't think he knows they are a bit expensive. It's hard to part with that much, but these things epitomize the value of German craftsmanship.Read full review
This is an older model Miele as of 2017. I have had it for about 1 month so far. It has worked very well except for one time. The machine will turn off completely then come back on when I vaccumed a rather shaggy thow rug so it was not completely smooth to vacuum. I have done some online research and discovered that this is a problem with Silver Moon due to the design of the electric hose that rotates at the cannister end and at the handle end. The electrical connections can become weak over time and cause the vacuum to turn off unexpectedly. This is the original hose I am referring to. You can buy an updated hose for over $100 dollars that is more reliable but add this into the cost of the machine. The vaccum itself has great suction when it is running and it farily quiet.

I have owned a Miele S558 Silver Moon since 2005 yr. and I have never had any troubles, I change out the vacuum bag & change out the intake filter included with vacuum cleaner bags. I just bought my 2nd Miele s558 Silver Moon, off ebay. The vacuum cleaner shop I buy from, is a factory warranty store Miele, they told me what was great about the Miele S558 was easy to replace the motor, and it was used in several model 500/600 series vacuums. The owner told me he owned 4 each of the model Miele s558 Silver Moon himself. Its the onley Vacuum I will own anymore. My home is pretty big, 3300 sqft home, most of the house is carpet.
OMG who wrote this description?? "The 111-inch water lift of this Miele canister cleaner enables you to clean floors quickly during those rainy days." WATER LIFT is merely a measurement of suction power. It does NOT mean this vacuum was meant to suck up water. THIS IS NOT A WET/DRY VACUUM!!!
