While I was waiting until 1/26/'10 for this release, late last year I got the 'Dangerous Tour'('92)dvd Live from Bucharest. Outstanding. I was still waiting then, so I picked up the 'Live in Japan'('87)dvd, and I liked that one too, and featured the song 'Bad'. OK, now its Feb, 2010, 'This is it' has been out awhile, all good reviews that I read, and I bought it. To me, it was very interesting, offered good insight as to what goes on behind the scenes, plus I discovered that everyone called Michael 'MJ'... (I never knew that before). BUT I have to qualify this only as 'good', no higher, 'cause: a)its still only rehearsal, b)the disturbing facts of his death right after this footage was shot. And one thing further... PLEASE stop using the term 'self-proclaimed' when saying King of Pop. It cheap- ens the title, and lets face it, didn't society do its best to cheapen and downgrade MJ if and whenever it had the chance??? LOVE YOU MJ & R.I.P.Read full review
Not Michael Jackson's best.No real dancing, no triple turns ( in fact no double ones either), weird hand moves.NO Michael Jackson.I know he is fifty but fifty is not old. Check out Tom Jones at fifty or Tina Turner over sixty. There is no way this MJ could have completed fifty shows. The best part of this show is his backup dancers and singers. He stands out on two occasions. "What About Us" rendition and a soul (Yes I said Soul and Michael Jackson in the same paragraph)impromptu performance with one of his backup singers: which he was not going to put into the final show. I enjoyed the look inside of MJ when he was not pleased. He was cool and direct and knew what he wanted. After watching the production of this show I came to the conclusion it was no wonder he could not sleep as he probably sensed how fragile he really was. He may have also sensed he could not possibly complete fifty performances. I don't know what bothered me more. MJ dying or hearing he was fifty. RIP Michael we hardly knew you.Read full review
Truly the Awesome King Of Music !. This takes you behind the scenes and it's more than I expected to see and hear. It was wonderful to see MJ surrounded by so many devoted, humble, great singers, dancers, and everyone else involved. Such a shame MJ did not get to do his tour :( , starting July 13th. Shame he is not around to raise his kids and enjoy his retirement, like he should of been able to do so. His poor mother, what she must be feeling, to lose her most precious son. The baby son that grew up to be more famous and popular than anyone in history !. MJ was a hard worker and never took anything or anyone for granted. He worked for years to get to where he got, and then some ass of a doctor took it all away from him. I wish I could personally hang and shoot that Murry ass guy, myself ! :( It anger me that he is going to get off easy too !. Someone must of paid him to murder our Michael. Please, Rest In Peace Michael, we all are on the way to come see you someday. Sincerely, Angie L.Read full review
The late Michael Jackson's "This Is It" which was released after his death, captures the preparations and rehearsals for the planned presentation which never occurred. Documenting the personnel, musicians, technicians, choreographers, and singers who shared in the development of the artistry and music of this captivating video, Jackson, himself shines in a glory that is uniquely his own. Viewers will recall the frequently televised clips of the "They Don't Care About Us" rehearsals. On the video, the creativity and computer-generated scenes are shown from the beginning stages to the completed production. Every viewer will be able to find their own particular niche in the lyrics of this penetratingly haunting, militarily-styled, rock-lament for the insensitivities of mankind. Well choreographed marching dance steps show an earnest defiance, coupled with a subtle hope for redemption and salvation. The recurring chorus will resonate in the minds and memories of viewers for a very long time. The technical qualities of the video are great. Lighting, camera angles and views, and overall staging of the video demonstrate professional skills that rank among the most imaginative and inspired filming techniques. Given the circumstances that prompted the creation and release of "This Is It," the video is destined to become a classic collector's item. The King of Pop has left a deep and lasting mark on the artistic and musical galleries of modern culture. Michael Jackson's superior dancing skills, coupled with his inviting vocal artistry, will not disappoint; but will inspire, thrill, uplift and give rise to genuine thankfullness that Michael Jackson once lived, walked, sang and danced amongst us.Read full review
