Following close on the heels of her last book, "Confessions of a Little Black Gown," Ms. Boyle takes us on another seductive ride. Twenty years ago,in 1814, Lady Philippa (Pippin) was in deeply in love with a pirate, Captain Dashwell. The marriage was never meant to be and in order to save her lovers life she had to agree to marry Viscount Gosset. Dash never forgot her and he never forgave her for breaking his heart. If you have read Ms. Boyle's last three books in this series, they will have provided you with glimpses and dialogue from their first meeting. In the present, 1837, Dash is still captain of a ship, but his son, Nate, is the one who is in charge since Dash is in his cabin, drunk, most of the time. Pippin is now a widow living in London with her 2 grown children, John & Ginger. One day, seeing Nate aboard his father's ship in the harbor, she thinks it is Dash and the sight makes her faint. Nate learns of Pippin and seeks her out to help his father. She travels with them aboard ship to Baltimore and on the journey their story unfolds of the secrets they shared and a life they had planned together and how it all went wrong. Oh....that little red dress plays a big part! This is a great romance and adventure book with star crossed lovers. It will leave you guessing whether Dash can forgive Pippa for the last 20 years. You'll want to stay with this book until the very last page.Read full review
The thing that suprised me the most is the setting. I was waiting the most for Pippin and Dash's story. I am so incredibly happy with how their story has played out. Anyone who loves a great love story will fall in love with these two star-crossed lovers.
