As camera collectors know this is THE book to own. But some camera photos and camera manufacturer history's from the 1998 version are not included in this 2005-2006. Maybe the had to draw the line because this book is twice a large. And having more information, led to more pages and thus, the page thickness had ot change to a thinner weight. My first impression was that the pages were thinner than the 1998 publication. But I realized that this Mckeown's Price Guide 2005-2006 had more camera photos, simply more information. I guess that's what it's all about. So, i'm using multiple books for finding what I need. It's good to own. —PEACE
Though this book may prove to be a valuable reference, it is far from complete, and nothing like the be-all, end-all that others have given it credit for. The book is aimed largely at collectors, and uses an often disparaging tone toward people who actually use these cameras (photographers, artists) In fact "user" cameras are often glanced over or omitted altogether. While the book devotes a full 19 pages to advertising and 28 pages "non-cameras" (novelties), it uses only 6 pages to cover everything that Graflex ever made, 4 pages for Linhof, 1 1/2 pages for Deardorff, a few sentences for both Cambo and Calumet and never even mentions Ebony, Sinar or Toyo-View. In fact, I would have to say that of the dozens of old view, field and press cameras I have on my shelves, less than a third can be found within the pages of this book.Read full review
This is a must have for collectors of antique and classic cameras. This book contains every camera with pictures. You can look up any camera you may have from 1800's to the 1970's. It gives detailed descriptions as well as prices for estimated collector value. This a must have for those that are thinking about buying or selling antique or classic cameras. I have bought other books, but they didn't have pictures or were this in depth about each model and variation. My old books are now just dust collectors, because this book covers it all.
This book has got to be 'The Bible' for anyone interested in collecting cameras. The book is very well indexed and illustrated and contains interesting historical details as well as a comprehensive price guide. It has helped me with my own collection and also encouraged me to seek out cameras I never knew existed. A great read as well as a great reference book.
This book is even better than I thought it would be....I am a longtime hobbyist & collector and this book is invaluable. It is truly the KBB of every camera every made. Sorry Jesus, it's my bible :) -Photogirl
