An engaging study of a writer's life, and his loves along the way. The movie jumps back and forth from childhood scenes to "present time" of the writer as an old man.

2011 PBS Masterpiece Theater is how I first saw this 4-part series that takes you from an Oxford student bon-vivant to an old man eating cat food. Excellent book. Excellently made into a movie/series. From the 1920s to the 1950s with all the changes in the world during that period. I knew I had to own the DVD to watch it again. It hits a personal nerve during mid-life and the acceptance of life as-is.

A boring series which seemed interminable. Not worth the money.

It was good, but bittersweet, so don't be in a sad mood while watching. Lots of historical tidbits made it very interesting. I will watch it again, to be enjoyed with a glass of wine ( or more ). Great for a whole rainy days viewing!
One of the best series on Masterpiece Theater - beautifully acted and beautifully written. Had never heard of this book and now after seeing the series, I want to buy the book and read it. You will not be disappointed.
