I owned a Marantz rc5200 until the touch screen went dead. I could have attempted to fix it, because it is sooo nice to have only the necessary buttons at my fingertips and no extra clutter, but the programming interface cable is rs-232 (serial) and my computer doesn't have one any more. The rc5400 uses a usb interface cable. Pros - infinitely programmable, touch screen can be totally context sensitive, flexible macros, no excess button clutter. cons - some would say lack of color but not me. programming software can be daunting to those who aren't savvy to complicated tech.
We have large system to run on our TV with, and were immediately impressed with the number of features available on this remote. It's a little big but is rechargeable and touch-screen. It has a pretty good lifespan. My only complaint is that the screen stopped working for us. Other remotes can be complicated to keep track of. Overall, I'd recommend the remote if you have a big system: TV, DVD player, CD changer, radio, VCR, HD box, or anything else that you would need 5 remotes.
Other than 3 open solder connections and a missing Battery and Software, it's a verry usefull tirm and I will buy more as-is remotes from MARANTZ, Period..........................................................................................................................................................
