Overall I love this preamp. It has almost every feature and connection you could ask for while providing the best bang-for-your-buck. With more and more manufacturers dropping connection options and producing stripped-down products it's nice to see that Marantz has decided to maintain a level of design and quality that provides multiple connection options and lets the user decide which set of features work best for themselves. I'm still working on a few aspects of the setup. The surround mode works great for movies and was easy to configure in about 30 minutes. The only thing I'm still trying to figure out is how I can turn the surround off completely and use multichannel stereo for music with equal output from all speakers. I'm assuming it's possible but haven't found the setting yet. I don't need a one-sitting-position concert hall music experience very often so the balanced output with equally calibrated sound from the main 3 sets of speakers works best for 80% of my use.Read full review

Had the AV8801 prior, and this beast (8802A) adds 4K switching/scaling, as well as the 3D object based sound formats, ATMOS & DTS:X. Yes DTS:X is available on this unit based on the firmware update. There are some trading up to the 8805, so there are deals to have on this unit, similar to the one I just landed on here. Worth every penny (pre-owned), too rich for my blood new though

This is one of the easiest AV processors to set up. There's every technology on the market and then some; can be programmed over wifi. The music DAC is amazing (warm and clean) ATMOS enabled and up to 3 zones 4K upscaling, etc. etc. Marantz tech support was actually pretty good. One of the things that sets it appart from the cheaper models is the sheilding and quality of components. On a lighter note, this thing weighs more than most amplifiers.

This, like the AV8801 and the Classé SSP800 at the time, is an attempt to find the balance between the audiophilia and modern video processing. Coming from the AV8801 I can say the stereo analog and MCH from uncompressed sources via analog and HDMI is a notch above. Perhaps the HDAM-SA2 opamps are responsible for a clearer definition sound. 4k HDR source switching is very fast, the UB900, Premiere+, and the LS10500 lock into each other fast. Love it, costs a lot, but I sold the AV8801 and a few pre-HDR components to offset the losses:)

Just words cannot say how awesome this is, The whole is only as good as it's parts.. so if you have quality amps and speakers this is the ice'n on the cake. Test drive it and you will not look back on the past AV Receivers you had in the past. This does it all and within a couple of days of tweaking the sound AUDIO NIRVANA
