this is the best ever manners book for children. It was first published in the 40's and is by the same author as Ferdinand the Bull, Munro Leaf. The book makes having good manners make sense and in such a way that is not sentimental or overly ingratiating. It's blunt. The drawings are a delight and easily understood and identifiable by children. Some of the manners, like doffing your hat to a lady might seem out of date, but my grandchildren thought it was a delightful action to follow and now doff their hats to ladies. The pictures really effectively show children what a Whinny looks like, r a Nosey or a Me First or Smash, Rip and Ruin. I received this book as a birthday present when I was 5 in l946 and still have the original copy. It's a gem. I am grateful it is back in print since manners are something many children aren't taught anymore.Read full review

I had Munro Leaf books as a child and loved them. The illustrations are comical & the lessons are useful & cleverly conveyed in a way that makes learning fun for children!😁

A bit archaic and no diversity yet worthy to read and dissect... there seems to be a lacking in the topic with quality characters.

Charming book with simple, expressive illustrations that make both children and adults laugh and humorous text that teaches basic manners in direct and uncomplicated language. I loved it.
