No cons; this is one of my absolute favorites, and the picture in the Blu-ray version is even a little bit "sharper" than the older DVDs. Also, two of my absolute favorites are the two stars, Tom Burlinson and Sigrid Thornton. Kirk Douglas does an outstanding job as well, far more believable than the guy who took the same part in version 2 of this story.

This is about the Blu-ray edition of the movie and not the movie itself. I personally love this movie and I bought it because I wanted it on Blu-ray with what I had hoped would be a superior transfer compared to the DVD release. The video transfer into 1080p was very well done with much improved clarity of image and deeper colors. However there were many scenes where the blacks became too grainy which I suspect is because of the age of the film (1982). Overall I was not disappointed by the video playback, I was actually impressed and very pleased. The BIG dissapointment was the lack of a remastered soundtrack. OK, the warping sound from the DVD and video tape was most definately fixed, but why was the sound not remastered into a full DTS 5.1 HD Master like other movies of that period. Sure it is DTS, but only a 2.0 surround and soundtrack is not mastered to such a point that it sounds all that impressive. My CD and mp3 files of the soundtrack have incredibily greater headroom and clarity than does the soundtrack on the Blu-ray, a major disappointment. I think it very disrespectful of MGM/Fox to not take care of the soundtrack as well or better than they did the video transfer. I only hope that the Australia release has these issues fixed. If they have then I will be buying the Australia version this summer while I'm there on vacation. Video - 4, Audio - 0.5, overall - 2Read full review
