I like mant books by Danielle Steel. This one is awesome. I cried, she really hit home on this one. This is a story of a young woman named Grace who endures more that any human should ever have to go through. In the beginning we go to her mothers funeral, thinking all is well. Then her father decides to rape her. He has been doing this for 4 years, since she was 13 when her mother held her down for her father. Some family. While he is having his way with her, she remembers the gun her mother kept in her night stand, she shoots him in the throat. Good riddance. She calls the police, they arrest her and she stands trail. No one believes the rape angle because her father was a lawyer and well-loved in the community. She goes to jail and spends 2 years there. Where with the help of 2 women who become her friend, she survives. While in jail, her doctor/friend is killed in a plane crash on her honeymoon. Grace was beside herself because this was her only friend on the outside. One who was going to let her stay with her when she got out of prision. Grace goes to Chicago when she is released from prision. She meets up with her parole officer who is a real slime. He keeps holding over her head that he will send her back first chance he gets if she doesn't sllep with him. She doesn't, she's too smart for him. Grace gets a job working for a modeling agency and moves in with 3 models on the rich side of town. Now the parole officer visits even more often, he wants the models. She starts to dating a producer and gets close to him. He wants to take pictures of her and she finally agrees. Grace goes to his apartment and he drugs her and tries to rape her. She doesn't let him but he does take picures of her. He shows these pictures to her boss and them her boss puts the moves on her. She says no and quits her job. From Chicage Grace moves to New York where she gets a job as a secretary in a law firm. She loves it and makes friends with the other secretary. Then the big bosses secretary falls in the subway and breaks her hip. They want Grace to take her place. She does but doesn't like it. She thinks he's like all men and only wants to sleep with her. Grace consults a priest where she does volunteer work. He says to give him a chance. She finally does and slowy they fall in love. Life is great. They have 2 kids before he is approached about taking a senate seat. He campains with her by his side, he wins. They have another baby. Now he is asked to run for congress. They talk about it and go for it. This is when all hell beaks lose and the press finds out that she killed her father and was in prision. Now everyone wants the story. They hound her and her family. This is when she finds out she pregant again. This is just too much one their relationship and she leaves. As she is leaving, she is in an accident and loses the baby. Her husband comes after her and they make up and this is when the realize that they have to give up the race for congress, that is is just too much. They decide to move back to Connecticut and leave Washington for good. No more pain for Grace, they can live in peace now. They get ready to leave when the president calls and her husband is asked to be an ambassador to France. They decide to go and on the trip she announces that she is pregnant again with possible twins. I loved this book and she really hits home with the feeings she gives to rape victims. I know it's how I felt when it happened to me. I cried.Read full review
Malice was definately a different one. I've read many, many of Danielle Steel's books, especially recently and I have to say, this one had me "on the edge of my bed" and I couldn't put it down. I read the entire thing in 1.5 days which is RARE for me as a mom of two and a full time employee and student. It usually takes me two weeks to read a full D.S. book because I prioritize my reading only before bed. This one, however, went everywhere with me for the whole 36 hours and I read it every spare minute, waiting to see just what would happen next. I highly recommend this and all of the D.S. books from the 90s especially because I feel that's when she was in her prime. She definately thought about the outcome of every action and this one was more suspensful than the others of hers that I've read, which I guess I happen to like now that I think about it. To be surprised, shocked, mortified, embarrassed and utterly speechless, take Malice for a ride. You won't be disappointed. There should be a warning label on the cover though, this is not for the faint of heart. Prepare yourself.Read full review
Love the author! Danielle Steel does her homework. She weaves a spectactular web of emotions from beginning to end. The books starts off a little slow but leaves you not wanting to put it down. 4 Stars!
I love this book. I had a hard time with it at first as you could take some offense to the "malice" that happened to her in the beginning. However, the book is great and has many surprises.
I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I AM A HUGE FAN OF DANIELLE STEELE. I HAVE EVERY DVD, MOST OF HER BOOKS AND AUDIO TAPES. I LIKE THE STORY BECAUSE I CAN RELATE TO THE CHARACTER IN SOMEWAYS. I DISLIKE THE FACT THAT I THOUGHT I REQUESTED THE AUDIO TAPE OF MALICE AND GOT THE HARD BACK BOOK INSTEAD, WHICH I ALREADY HAVE.
