First off, I LOVE Matt Hughes, I have been a big MMA fan of his for years. I had been thinking about getting his and Chuck Liddell's book for my bday, and it so happened we were going on a road trip near the same time, so I got both as a gift to myself. I read Chuck's first, which in hindsight made Matt's look worse. Matt's book had A LOT of LENGHTY conversations (literally, word for word conversations) in the book, that I found... #1 - boring, #2 irrelevant to what I wanted to read about him, #3 - false--- how could he remember that long of a conversation, word for word, when he was 10?!?!?!?! That is what made me mad to begin with... Ask my husband, I cussed a lot while reading this book because of how dissapointed I was in how it was written. I had a hard time pushing myself to continue reading, hoping it would get better. I wanted to learn about his life, childhood, etc., but not in the form of word-for-word conversations that I knew couldn't be accurate because NOBODY would be able to remember all that! Sorry Matt, I love you as a fighter (and great on the eyes), but you should have chosen another author - maybe Chuck's author, for example - now that was an AWESOME read! For those of you that can grin and bear it through the 1st half, the 2nd half gets better because the conversations are fewer, although still in there (unfortunately).Read full review
I bought this book because i am a big fan of Matt Hughes and also i had bought books by other fighters or books written about other fighter and enjoyed reading the books. I thought it was very good overall i just thought the conversations were a little in depth for happening years in the past and they took a little long to finish. All in all one the best books i've ever read.
The book is well written, engaging, and honest. It comes across as honest. Hughes isn't trying to make his life and choices look better than they are. His life makes a compelling story.
Bought this book because i wanted to hear what Matt Hughes' life was like growing up! I was a really good book. Would recommend it to anyone. Also bought this book because it was autographed by Matt Hughes.
I read this book in about 5 days. It was hard to put down. He talks a lot about growing up and a lot about his fights. He gives a good insight as to where Matt came from and what kind of guy he is. It is really detailed.
