Built very solid, this pedal really does do what it says it will do. I like the fact that besides the 10 bands it also has a Volume slider and a Gain slider. This makes this one very versatile pedal. Easy to operate, Simple to understand, Very quiet signal processing and it comes with it's own power supply rather than sold separately. I can see why they hold their resale value on ebay. I put mine on top of the amp and run it through one of my loops so it is much more convenient than having it on the pedal board. But, either way works just fine. It's great for room shaping when moving from one venue to another and tweaks my guitar tone perfectly every time. Very little movement on the sliders produce quite a bit of adjustment so there is always plenty of headroom in all frequencies. Would buy it again. Would recommend it highly. You will be happy with it. I also like the way the sliders light up making it much easier to use in a dark environment. Plus the lights on the frequency sliders switch on and off with the foot switch so you can tell if it's on or not. The Volume and Gain sliders are always lit so you can see there is power to the unit weather in use or not.Read full review

This is a really great stompbox for anyone searching for an easy and inexpensive way to shape the tone of their guitar. I never realized how 'average' my guitar tone was until I bought this. My trebles are bright and crisp and my lows seem to have a booming, nearly infinite sustain. If you don't want to spend the money on a rack mount EQ, this is the way to go. One interesting thing I will make note of: The volume slider is VERY noisy. Oddly enough, if you treat the gain slider as you normally would a volume slider, the hiss almost completely vanishes. I thought this was strange, but it totally works for me and my tone is fantastic now. Aside from that one thing, the only con I can think of is that it is powered by 18V instead of normal 9V pedals. Bummer if you're using a powered pedal board or daisy chain.Read full review
My friend has a Boss 7 band eq pedal; I tried it during a band rehearsal and unplugged it immediately after the first song--the tone I was looking for just wasn't there. He now uses it for his Fender Jazz bass, and after that, my rig just couldn't compete with his sonic bass tone anymore, until... I bought the Big Muff w/tone wicker and put the MXR 10 band eq BEFORE it (there's seems to be some debate about putting the eq before or after distortion pedals; after hours of playing with it on both sides, it stays firmly planted before the distortion-giving it a much more transparent and aggressive sound--listen to the album "Heavy Petting Zoo" by NOFX to see what I mean. Putting it after the distortion made my tone too thin and fizzy.) I keep everything pretty much flat across the board except for the 1khz and 2khz which stay between +6 and +12 giving my tone a top end that will bite your head off! Never in my life did I have a clue what good guitar tone sounded like until I plugged this thing in, and that alone got me over the fact it's only powered by an 18volt wall wart (no option for batteries? WTF!) Never owning an EQ pedal before, I was a bit discouraged at first, but after mastering the 10 frequencies available to tweak, my OWN face almost melted off when I found my sweet spot. (note: this may take a lot of messing around with if you've never used an EQ pedal before, so I HIGHLY recommend learning how to use it before busting it out at a show or a band rehearsal, unless you really want to annoy your bandmates by bending over to tweak the sliders every few seconds lol.) I've been a guitarist for 23 years and have been playing in bands for 10, and I can honestly say the MXR 10-Band EQ is absolutely as essential to my tone as the Guitar (Epiphone SG) and Amplifier (Peavey 5150; Marshall Cab)--I refuse to ever play without it. If I lost it, I would put up posters all around town with pictures of it saying, "Have you seen me?" If it was stolen I would hunt the person down, rip their arms off and beat them with their own arms--that's how much I love this thing. There's also a Kerry King model out that has stereo outputs for those of you who are into that sort of thing. I tried to make this review as honest as possible so hopefully it helps aid you in your purchase. If you need a more physical review there's a couple videos on Youtube for it. My set-up goes like this: Epi' SG-- Korg Pitchblack tuner-- Jimi Hendrix Crybaby Wah-- MXR 10 band EQ-- Big Muff w/tone wicker-- Peavey 5150/Marshall 4x12 cab. Simple and quick to use, accurate, and Very low noise ... a must have for amp or guitar voicing. Use it to balance tone between various guitars. Use after the Guitar or in the effects loop ... I prefer in the effects loop ... Looks great ... I velcroed it to the top of my combo so it is always where I need it!

I mostly play with my church band and I don not get paid, so I cannot afford much on pedals, however I have collected a few pedals and needed to add this to my pedal board, this is why.. My amp doesnt have very good tone shaping knobs, there is only so much you can do with Bass treble and mid. After much research I landed on the MXR 10. I have heard that there is alotta hiss from this pedal but was willing to take the chance and see (hear) it for myself. Cons: There is a hiss but it is not super loud if you keep your levels low (at +0 db)and not crank it No battery option so you need to have an adapter for it to work. and it is 18v so if your pedalboard only has 9v you are stuck. Pros: small doesnt take too much space on the board. Very responsive sliders. built very sturdy holds its resale value well. makes your guitar and amp do so so so much more, if used well can save money on need for other pedals. My Pedals: DVP1 Volume - Boss V Wah - OCD overdrive - Line6 M5 - Boss DD20 Giga Delay - Kustom 5h tube amp with a 12inch custome built open back speaker cab. if this was stolen would i buy another one? if I had the cash yes I would.Read full review
