The epitome of Morrissey's song writting abilities surpasses salvation here. Opening lines and closing lines of songs relate directly to life. Morrissey's pen writes lyrics here that hit home and gently force you to relate to your own life; that is "Vauxhall and I". Hated for loving, trust between friends, families falling apart, then comming together again; It's all true and "ah,but Bunny I loved you". Hear how one turns on a family member or friend,(how could you?)racing down the Speedway of life. The jaded, the so-called-forbidden, people who stay hidden, look deep inside and I'm sure you'll find your familiar self. I certianly did. Not even the magic of Morrissey could do another Vauxhall and I. It is my very favorite collection of songs this world will ever know...and I just can't explain, so I won't even try too". Heart felt thanks to Alain Whyte, Boz Boorer, Jonny Bridgewood, Woodie Taylor, Steve Lillywhite, Danton Supple, Chris Dickie and Jake xox for a truly memorable recording of Morrissey at his very finest. Out of all the Morrissey solo albums that I've heard so far, Vauxhall and I is definitely my favorite. Personally, I think it is his best venture since The Smiths. I'm not too keen on "Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning", but the rest of the tracks off this album are all top-notch. My favorites are "Hold On To Your Friends", "Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself", and "The Lazy Sunbathers." The reason I decided to buy this album is because it was my understanding that it is considered by many critics to be one of Morrissey's best. Having listened to this album several times now, I'm inclined to agree with them.
Morrissey is unlike any other songwriter I can think of in that both his songwriting and his musical innovation have consistently improved ever since the early days with The Smiths. Vauxhall and I is less melancholic and more mature than anything he did with the Smiths, but still not nearly as intricate and orchestral as the recent Ringleader of the Tormentors. His voice shines on Vauxhall, that is its main attraction. First listen to Meat is Murder and Ringleader of the Tormentors, then if you are hooked. . .
This is a great album for any morrissey fan. It has once again great music that WILL surprise and is quite amazing. You need to pick up a copy of each of his albums to know him. If you dont like morrissey then why are you reading this? If not then buy this album!!!
After listening to this album it makes you feel like Morrisey is living in a snail shell hiding out as a slug in the deepest dankest depths of a funky crack on your front porch...and singing about love!!!!! I hope this review helps and will influence you to buy the album. BYE BYE.
