There is a reason you see so many players on television using Scotty Cameron putters. That reason is they(both the putters and the players) are so consistent. I have been playing various models over the years and the one constant is that they seem to have a leg up on the competition when it comes to distance control. The Newport 2 model has a very clean look at address. I prefer the single sight line on this putter. The toe-down setup really help the golfer line up putts as well. The soft gray finish screams quality as well. What sets the Studio Style apart from the billion other insert-style putters is the compound used to seal and cushion the 303 insert. Centered putts feel buttery soft and have a very distinctive sound. These combine to help practice sessions by ingraining a proper stroke. The putter is neither too heavy or too light. It forces you to take a controlled swing. Come to think of it, I hardly ever find myself thinking about how hard to hit a put. That is how much I trust this putter. I concentrate on making a smooth and solid stroke...the putter takes care of the rest. I believe that Mr. Cameron designed each model to be a specific swingweight. That said, lengthing, shortening, or reshafting any SC has a certain amount of risk associated with it. Nobody has dialed in this swingweight and length better that Mr. Cameron. I have played a number of shortened models and the distance control is not the same. If you want a shorter model, either find one from the factory at that length or send the putter to SC's Custom shop for a proper setup. Buying one of these putters is an investment. Treat it as such. Mr. Cameron has spent a fair amount of his life designing a putter that makes you hit better putts. Trust him and his work. Buy one that is standard and keep it that way. You will be purchasing a tool that is also a work of art that will help you be a better player.Read full review
I love this putter, but rather than delving into my personal feelings I'll talk about it's key features. I've played heel shafted blade putters for ten years. I thought I loved them because they are simple and pure...you make a bad stroke and you know it right away. I resisted a more modern Anser style putter until I putted around with my brother's Newport 2. I was blown away. This putter won't make your putts go in, but it makes it very easy to make a good stroke. The putter is perfectly balanced so it's effortless to take it back and through smoothly. I had to get used to how light the putter is compared to my last one (Cleveland "Designed By" 1905 model), but I became confident with it within weeks. I used to think that Scotty Cameron putters were status symbols for people who wanted to prove that they could spend so much on a putter, but I'm converted now.Read full review
If you know golf, and if you know the pro's, this is the one club that will set you apart from all your buddies on the course while taking strokes off your game. The Scotty Cameron Newport Series is a club that is well balanced and solid as a rock. I attribute this to the German Steel insert. The first time I hit this club on the green I heard a totally different sound. This is first class quality all the way. This club is very consistent in every way. Use what the pro's use, and use what we all should use. The Scotty Cameron line of putters is simply the best. Now to my wife. I bought her a Scotty Cameron Newport Detour 2.5 and she loves it. Her first hit was unnerving for her because they are not cheap and she slightly miss hit it a foot from the cup. On the next hole she drilled in a 20 footer and now I couldn't pry it away from her for nothing. For whatever reason, she has lowered her handicap tremendously and now she's a heckuva lot easier to get along with at the course. To me thats priceless. So pony up the couple hundred bucks on ebay and have a great 2008 season.Read full review
Putting is not a strength for me. Streaky is a good description. I've tried mallets and blades many manufacturers with much the same result. This is my first Cameron. My favorite putter before this newport was a TM Rossa Daytona Sport. The Studio Style Newport 2 is very similar. The hype is dead on. I now know what they mean when they rave about, "feel", This putter has an amazing feel. Rolling the ball seems to just happen. The confidence factor feeds itself. A couple of notes. The serial number on a Cameron is located on the shaft below the grip. The lightness of the select newport 2 takes some getting used to but I believe it may be the reason for the exceptional, "feel". The grip seemed overly soft and smaller than I'm used to and I was going to change it out...with a little practice it now seems normal. These things may actually be worth the price.Read full review
Read all the hoopla and honsetly when I went to TGW and Golf Galaxy locally, i was able to find a couple of used ones to use on their putting surfaces and truth be told, I did better with the TM Rosa type putter (same blade style) but I actually went ahead and bought a SS Newport2 and figured if I don't like it I can put it back up for sale and honestly, I can't be any happier. I'm a hack so I can't give anything than my results (I've been using it for a little more than 2 months). More one putts when they would be scarce on the scorecard. All i can tell you is that I feel i can drain anything from 5-8 feet from the cup. It just "feels" better. You hear that constantly and for putters it is crucial. Maybe it's phsycological or what not but the bottom line is i'm putting much better with the scotty than I was with my older TM putter. Beware of fakes as their are plenty of them out there. According to acushnet, on the older models "Our serial numbers are located on the bottom of the grip on the shaft of the club". So beware and go and and get one. This is imho, "you get waht you pay for".....Read full review
