I work maintenance and was repairing roof exhaust fans. The fans have 2 - 3/8" x 4" bolts for adjusting the fan belt tension that were installed 40 years ago. In the past other people just "slipped" another replacement belt over the pulleys and went on their way. In order to correctly maintain the fans the belts need proper tensioning. These bolts have 40 years of rust on them and are a bear to loosen. I borrowed another workers known brand 12 volt impact driver which worked better than a socket and ratchet. Since I personally own the Makita 18 volt hammer drill and 5/16" impact driver kit I decided to purchase the 1/2" impact driver to utilize the batteries that I already have. When I received the impact driver I was surprised to see that it was the same physical size as the 5/16" impact driver I had. That was good because it would now fit in my kits case that I carry with me that includes the spare battery and charger. I was even more surprised when I used it on those fan bolts. The Makita 18 volt impact driver really "kicks butt". For being a small physical size it has more impacting power than the other brand name impact driver I used. I am VERY pleased with this Makita 1/2" impact driver and am recommending it to anyone who needs a light weight portable impact driver with some guts.Read full review
