This light- hearted comedy with some of the best actors travels in short story form. The plots are real and the endings are uplifting. If you want a "feel good comedy" with great actors, it is one to keep.

Saw bits and pieces of this movie on TV and wanted to see the whole movie. Then saw it listed in an article as one of the best Christmas movies. First, it is not a Christmas movie. It is a romance movie that happens to take place during the weeks before Christmas. Warning: If you have seen this movie on TV, be prepared for the dvd version to be much different. Let's just say you should not have your children or mother in the room. I could have done without the sex scenes (one couple was making a porn film), and have to wonder what the producer thought this added to the movie. Call me old-fashioned, but some scenes were uncomfortable and embarrassing. Other than that, it was a good movie. I always like Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson and liked the many other actors in the movie. There were so many characters and stories going on that sometimes it was hard to follow who is who and what is what. For that reason, I could watch this movie two or three times to catch everything that was going on. Overall an enjoyable movie, but I will watch again with the remote handy to forward through the bad scenes.Read full review

This is a long, wonderful movie for romantics. Not a great film, but full of affecting performances and music. It tells a number of stories about different types of love -- of a widowed father for his lovesick little boy, of a woman whose devotion to her mentally impaired brother keeps her from pursuing a life of her own, of a married couple wounded but surviving the husband's brief infidelity, and many more. Warm, engaging performances by Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman, Laura Linney, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, and a slew of wonderful British character actors. The film purposefully runs the gamut from gauzy, predictably squishy romances to other stories touching on some of the bitter truths about long-term relationships, self-sacrifice, infidelity, missed timing, loss of a loved one, and survival. A great date movie!Read full review
Love Actually is an enjoyable film that I've watched numerous times on different TV movie telecasts and decided to purchase it on DVD. It has numerous stories that depict a cross-section of people and interests comprised of the death of a child's mother, the Prime Minister of England finding love, children experiencing "puppy love", marital betrayal, porn (!)film extras falling in love, an aging Rock Star, a sister's devotion to a mentally ill brother, and more. I actually love the fact that there really are some "life lessons" to be learned here and that the choices we make can bring great joy or great sorrow. Loved the music soundtrack and the snowy holiday theme. What I disliked the most in the storyline was the use of the porn industry story and visuals. The couple could have easily been written in a different industry or business and still had an impact. It just amazes me how easily the "f" word flows from scripts when it's really inappropriate and does nothing to enhance the script or character who uses it...i.e. the Prime Minister's love interest uttering it several times as she comes down the stairs and is surrounded by young children. Overall though, I liked the characters and story lines.Read full review
