Had WD Hard Drives in the past. Very reliable. Wanted the HD to make a external HD to store digital photos. Bought the External HD Enclosure also on eBay. HD was only two years old, clean and formatted on receipt as advertised. HD is a 7200 rpm unit and the seek time is very fast running on USB 2.0. I am satisfied with the results. HD now has over 43 gigs of digital photos stored on it. Bought it because of the size, IDE connection, speed and lastly the price. Was on my doorstep in two days from Arizona. Unit was in a plastic bubble, protected and packaged well.
Western Digital is my choice for PC builds or repairs which employ IDE (PATA) or SATA hardware in both 3.5 and 2.5 inch profiles. I have used them for the better part of 10 years with great success. I have had few problems with these drives, however when I did WD service and warranty RMA was there for my customers. Their Lifeguard software has a variety of troubleshooting applications which can overcome prior (like in someone else) setup, MBR and formatting errors and is available for download at the www.westerndigital.com Personally have used these drives in Linux, Solaris and Windows OS applications. No issues with transparency to the OS's nor setup and formatting. Please be aware that some applications should direct you to look at the class of drive (AAKS, AAJS, YS, SE, SE-16, Green, etc), spindle speeds, cache requirements and cooling schemes more closely. WD has a drive to meet all these needs that will perform over the long run. Lastly, with their availablity as "used" or "like new" drives on ebay they become an attractive alternatives to purchasing new for failed drive PC repairs or just increased space on over crowded PC's. I am not a WD representative or employee. I simply use these drives out of personal experience in small repair business. The big picture - if my customers are satisfied, I am satisfied. A word of wisdom for hard drive selection - do your homework and select to suit the application so that the drive has a chance to perform well in the environment you are asking it to do service in. Don't blame drive failure on the manufacturer because you did a lously job to begin with - NO MATTER WHO THE MANUFACTURER IS!Read full review
one could never go wrong with a WD. awesome products. aside from huge capacity, these product are also durable. when compared to other products out there you cant complant. i had one of these that went dead on me for some odd reason or the othe and so i decided to get a new one. the price is also very reasonable when compared to other brands. so if youre looking for depandability and durability look no further, get yourself a Wester digital cavier and youll be set for life.
I needed a 250 GB hard drive for installation of Windows Vista Ultimate on my desktop omputer. This desktop already had a smaller hard with Windows XP on it.I looked at various reviews of hard drives on the Internet and finally selected Western Digital's Caviar.Somebody appropriately said about Western Digital as the Honda Accord of hard drives.I fully agree with this classification. The hard drive I bought on eBay was a used one but performance wise it was as good as new.
