There are two types of Pentium-M Centrino single core processors: 400MHz FSB and 533MHz FSB for socket 479 (socket-M). This processor has 2MiB cache and is for 533MHz FSB motherboards, so make sure you have a chipset that supports that. I don't! My mistake, but possibly I'll track down such a mobo because of the faster possible memory speeds and more up-to-date features like SATA. Process works on 400MHz FSB chipsets, but clock speed is then 1.6GHz. It's better than the older 1.6GHz chips though, because of the 2MB cache.
I paired this processor ($20) with the Asus' CT-479 Pentium M socket adapter, which I was also able to get new for $20 on E-Bay, and voila, I significantly increased by son's old desktop's speed (at lower temps). It replaced an Intel P4 2.8 Ghz Northwood which was better at multi-tasking and video-editing due to it's HT technology, but the M770 easily overclocked to 2.5 Ghz and is much faster for gaming and all-around performance thanks in part to the larger 2 MB L2 cache. If you own an old motherboard like my Asus P4C800-E Deluxe, and want to stretch a few more years out of it this CPU and the socket adapter add a whole new lease on life for these old mobo's. It's an easy upgrade that was fun and had real tangible benefits for only a few bucks! Just make sure that this CPU will work on your board. If you have an Asus board look into gettting the socket adapter, it drops right in and the M770 piggy-backs on top. Easy and fast! My 3dMark 01 scores jumped from 14422 to 20193 and on 3dMark 05 from 4365 to 4635.Read full review
There's really not much I can say about this CPU. It is an old obsolete model but it does what it is supposed to do. I replaced a much slower processor in my Dell Inspiron 6000 with this used CPU and it works perfectly, almost doubling the speed of the previous CPU. The result is that I extended the life of the old Dell notebook.
upgraded my dell d610 and it does do the job but that said the laptop is quite old and very slow, but it did pick up and helped the system very well. It seems to me that these say used and checked(which in this case i would prefer to make sure it is to specs.) but it looked in new condition, and thank you for a fine product. Larry
