This is another great collection of the Warner Bros. cartoons. Lots of nice extras in the additional features with looks behind the toons themselves. The commentaries are interesting also, although their usefulness will be largely up to the individual. There are nice little facts about the cartoons and those involved in them that I appreciate. One minor complaint is the fact that every disc automatically opens with the Whoopi Goldberg intro - easily skipped through obviously. I did not find any of the cartoons presented in vol. 3 to be any more "adult" oriented than the previous 2 volumes which I also own. The exception would be one of the WWII cartoons, but even then considering the cartoon's intended purpose it is not that offensive. I find the Goldberg intro to be somewhat misleading actually. Just my opinion. The look of the shorts is quite good. I wish they would have made the decision to "completely" clean of the cartoons. In one of the features it's explained that the artifacts that exist on the cell level were left in as removal of the dust and other blemishes was deemed undesirable. It would have also added to the cost of bringing these shorts to DVD. If you grew up watching Looney Tunes this would be a worthwhile set to pick up. Several of Clampett's cartoons are included - more so than the first 2 volumes. 3 of my big favorites are the ones with the hillbillies w/Bugs calling their square dance, the Elmer and dog toon with the flea singing "Food Around the Corner" and the Bugs/gremlin toon. Lot's of good stuff!Read full review
What can one say about the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes?? They have been making people laugh for over 70 years. This four disc set contains 60 cartoons and clocks in at over 440 minutes (7 hours 20 minutes), enough to keep any adult or child busy for awhile. There is an disclaimer on the box that this is intended for the adult collector and may not be suitable for children. I think that most of the adult humor is usually too subtle for the children to understand. Each cartoon has been digitally remastered and is uncut and uncensored. I praise the Warner Brothers Studios for choosing to release some of the more controversial cartoons and leave them uncut. Unlike Disney has done with some of their releases (With Pecos Bill al scenes of him smoking were omitted, the result of which cut the cartoon in half) Whoopi Goldberg is seen in the beginning of each disc and talks about political correctness and how some of these cartoons definately are NOT. But she says to cut or censor them does not reflect the artists original intentions, nor the feel of society of the time. Each disc is organized with a central theme. Disc One focuses on Bugs Bunny and contains one of my all time favorite shorts: "Hillbilly Hare". Disc Two lampoons Hollywood and the actors of the time. Disc Three and Four: Features Daffy Duck and the ensemble cast of many. There are many commentaries and behind the scenes featurettes, as well as a documentary on Chuck Jones. Has English, Spanish, and French sound tracks as well as subtitles. Wonderful quality set with nice picture and sound. A bonus to my collection.Read full review
I notice on the packaging that there is a warning that these cartoons may 'not be suitable for children'. Pretty ironic, considering when first released, these cartoons were especially made for kids. But in all honesty, the typical Warner Brothers cartoon did have an underlying intelligence and a cynical, knowing humor about the world. I consider their catalog the best cartoons America has ever produced, and since the cable networks are barely showing any of these old classics, it's important to have these DVDs in one's collection if they have any love of classic Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. There are many very old black and white cartoons included. This is excellent. I've spent a fair share of my adult life watching these old Warner Brothers' cartoons, and I honestly haven't seen some of these included here. The Golden Collection has six different DVDs currently, and I plan to get them all.Read full review
Even though the Looney Tunes were made before I was born, I grew up with them and they have always been my favorite. "Back in the day" you could see these classic cartoons on TV seven days a week. Now, however, they only show up at odd hours. When you do get lucky enough to find them, they are edited for time and/or "watered down". This collection (like the others) shows all your favorite 'toons just as they were originally created. The sound and picture is top notch. Even the black and white ones look and sound fresh. Possibly my favorite parts of the DVD's are all the Special Features. Tons of behind-the-scenes nuggets that I have never viewed before and wouldn't have if they hadn't been included here. Sure, the kids love 'em, but it's the adults that really appreciate them! Do yourself a favor. Don't just buy one of the collections, get them all!Read full review
18 of 21 people found the following review helpful: I love these cartoons!, November 25, 2005 By Jezzi B (Novato, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Looney Tunes - Golden Collection, Volume Three (DVD) My dad's been buying these Looney Tunes DVD sets for the last couple of years. He says they're for my sister and me, although I think he mostly buys them for himself. I like all three of the sets so far, but I think this one's slightly the best. I never actually saw any Looney Tunes growing up (I know, I must be like the only one), so I don't care which ones used to be shown on Saturday morning or whenever. I like all of them. I think this one has the best variety on it so far, because it has lots of different characters on it, and it mixes some of the older ones with the newer ones (although they're all old to me). The newer ones are usually funnier, but for some reason, I think I like the old ones better. I don't really know why. They're more animated or something. That probably doens't make sense. Oh well. I say just buy this set, and you'll be glad you did. Don't listen to the whiners complaining because these aren't the exact cartoons they remember from Saturday morning. Have an open mind. It's cool to watch stuff from another period in time. And these are all a lot more hilarious than any of the stuff that gets made today. I don't really like any of the modern cartoons. I hate anime. But I love these Looney TunesRead full review
